You can preheat the battery even faster by doing some full throttle accelerations. From my prior EV experience, if stuck with a car with a frozen battery needing to DC charge, it is actually faster to go to a nearby highway, floor it a few times going up an exit or two and then back, then pulling into a DC charger. Full throttle heats the batteries faster than any pre-heating.The reason it is 1 hour is to pre-heat the battery when cold to give nearer normal performance and range.
If all I want to do is warm or cool the cabin I just switch on the pre-heat/cool 5 minutes before I am leaving.
