The reason it is 1 hour is to pre-heat the battery when cold to give nearer normal performance and range.
If all I want to do is warm or cool the cabin I just switch on the pre-heat/cool 5 minutes before I am leaving.
You can preheat the battery even faster by doing some full throttle accelerations. From my prior EV experience, if stuck with a car with a frozen battery needing to DC charge, it is actually faster to go to a nearby highway, floor it a few times going up an exit or two and then back, then pulling into a DC charger. Full throttle heats the batteries faster than any pre-heating.

I haven’t had an opportunity to use launch control on summer tyres so an “overtake” button on the steering wheel giving the same power profile would be handy. I still may not use it often but nice to have the option for a few seconds.
Why? The simplest and most intuitive solution is to simply unleash the boost in power for however many seconds when the accelerator hits the floor. My wife's eTron does this. Launch mode should be entering special stance, priming motors and setting applicable traction control settings for the fastest drag performance. It should not be unleashing any extra power.

That sounds like a bad treatment and bad idea for a coldsoaked battery!!! Hi dis charger or charge power on a cold battery will do much more damage than a gentle heat up, in my knowledge. Would be interesting to hear what some battery experts on here say??

Sounds similar to flooring a coldsoaked ICE car. Heats up but at what costs??

I don't think that's necessarily true for EVs. For one, one of my Tesla Model S I had for almost 8 years, doing that regularly did not affect the battery - sold it with minimal battery degradation. I would even argue that heating it up by drawing max power (which will be limited by the car's computers of course, due to low battery temperature) provides the most evenly distributed heat across the entire battery, as each cell becomes its own little heater, rather than apply heat from the outside. It also provides cumulatively more heat than the high voltage heater in the car, so it heats faster. Last but not least, I know Tesla actually generates heat in 3/Y by running the motors inefficiently on purpose when desired, causing higher battery current, which results in heat being produced in the motors and in the battery (they use that heat for anything that needs it, including heating the cabin). They can even do it with motors at 0rpm. Out of all EV manufacturers, Tesla has the most data on battery management - they have the most EV's on the road the longest, and they have automatic over-the-air telemetry data collection from all those cars over a decade now.

Sure Tesla do run the motors to heat up battery etc. When they have the afterburners engaged the car will draw about 7 kW or so. And that is in the same ballpark as the Taycan HV heater, so that would not be very different. I am not so sure about full pedal acceleration where a few 100 kW would be provided, will be good for it. But I am not an expert on Li batteries.

Not when it is parked you can’t and that is what the function I am discussing is for.

A Porsche dealer in Germany told me that there is a software update coming whereby the car has to come in. I have an appointment for a rear light replacement and they hope to have the software update too. I bring the car in on 25th Oct.
However, I haven't seen any postings about a new release yet, nor have I read sth about it on the German Taycan forum.

Is there any information about any upcoming software update?
Cheers
I just got yesterday a problem with the connection of the lte, so I stopped at my Porsche dealer. Checking what’s going on, they discovered an outstanding update. So I had the car 2 weeks before for the 30k service and back then was no update. What we read about this update, it’s not an OTA update, and it should improve the PCM. I got an appointment for the update on 06.10.
I’ll keep u updated

Yes got it today.
It is the PCM update. Takes about 1 hour or so. Not OTA indeed.
Big update expected early next year.

Any changes? Is the screen lag still there?
I never had trouble with my PCM since the TS came in last august.
Which lag do you refer to? I find it quick. Not sure what all happened but worked and works well for me.

Most of the times I want to open an app like navigation I get the haptic and sound feedback I ticked the screen, but it costs arouns 3-5 sec to actually show the app. Same for typing in a destination, a small lag of around half a second before the screen is showing what I typed. Is your car MY23 or MY24?

MY22 :)
I had a MY23 4s and traded it for a MY22 Turbo S.
Some of these lags I do recognize though, but maybe it didnt feel so bad for me personally. I will check and feedback if that issue has been solved with this update.

I don’t have any lag on my MY22. Actually, I find the PCM pretty reactive.
