Maybe the OTA update reset the range guess-o-meter, showing higher predicted range while it re-learns each car/driver behaviour. Would be a nice trick to make owners think Porshce had gifted them more range for free, however it would not like them, they won't even allow the J1.1 PCM software to be updated to J1.2 version.

Unless an update releases more usable battery, you won’t gain any real world range with an OTA update.

EVs are pretty efficient. Not a lot of wasted energy. So it takes X amount of electricity to move the vehicle at XX speed. How you drive and how fast as well as the weather determine how much energy you use.

After performing the update last night, this morning I went on a 53.7-mile roundtrip and used up 21% SoC.
So that's an extrapolated 256-mile range, at optimal temperatures but mainly suboptimal speeds (both too fast and too slow).
Efficiency was 2.9 mi/kWh, which implies total usable battery capacity of ... wait, hold on, even with adjusting for possible rounding in the reported figures, isn't that impossible for J1.1!?!?
(Even more so with almost 76k miles).

Anyway, upon returning home, the GoM was surprisingly pessimistic: 149 miles at 64% SoC, so an extrapolated 233-mile range projection.
I drove that same loop again yesterday, nearly identical temperatures and speeds, with an additional tenth of a mile for a supermarket stop, for 53.8 miles.
This time that SoC consumption was ... 17%?!?
So that's an extrapolated 316-mile range, or 307 if the SoC consumption was really 17.4999% (but didn't get rounded up to 18%).
GoM extrapolated range projection was still a ho-hum 241 miles.
And efficiency was the same as last time.
Overall, combining all of this ... means that something is really off with the various measurements.

^^^ trading resumes looks like big problems though for them. I was hoping they might make it. Stock had 61% drop at one point today. Lots of rumors out there.

For what it's worth on my J1.2 CT I've found that (observed) range maps non-linearly to indicated battery percentage. Going 40 miles starting at 90% might drop it to 82%, while going 40 miles at 50% might drop it to 35%. (Numbers are made up but they're generally in the right ballpark.)

All that being said, the in-car navigation is excellent at predicting the final battery percentage, so if I'm worried about range I use that.

I still haven't got an OTA on my 2020 J1.1 Turbo S. Unless I missed a notification and it happened behind the scene? Also getting more like 2.2 mi/kWh. 😂

You can’t extrapolate range based on the guess-o-meter displayed charge percentage. It’s not even remotely close to an accurate measuring stick.

If extrapolating range- use miles/kwh measurements and multiply from there.

Nope. And it’s not entirely linear neither.

That’s why people call it the GoM (Guess o meter).

Energy usage is measured in miles/kwh. Compare that to the usable KWh on the battery and you can extrapolate range.

Simple math for example. If a 100 kWh battery and you average 3 miles/kwh, you get 3x100 or 300 miles of range.

But you can’t assume that if you go 30 miles on 10% of that same battery that you’re getting 3 miles per kWh. The stated % isn’t precise enough.

I have seen Stated % of battery go UP after driving just because the battery warmed up and it got warmer outside. If using that for a measurement I would have infinite range! 😜

Mine unfortunately is still is at 3882 and doesn't have an update waiting to be installed. It's not in private mode and Porsche Connect is active (dealer said that should be so). Ofcourse Porsche connect care is also active as no Taycan is older than 10 years yet and it's included that long.

Real curious about the difference once mine gets the new update, hopefully the OTA update will come soon.

FWIW... As with ICE cars, short trips in an EV, even when driven carefully, will use more kWh/mile than long trips under same conditions. The battery, climate and regen systems etc take a little time/distance to settle down to optimum efficiency.

So... Extrapolation of real one-trip max range at 100% SoC - from shorter trips will be less accurate.

And... No change to my range from the OTA (here in the UK)

Yipes -- I always thought (mistakenly apparently) that figure for remaining miles was the G part, and the SoC% reasonably accurate.
I've had SoC% bounce around for other devices, but I've never had it go up for either my Taycan or i4.
And I can't multiple mi/kWh by my usable battery size to calculate my max range since after 76k miles I don't know my precise SoH (although based on calcs from various trips, must be at least in the mid 90s, maybe even high 90s, so holding up quite well).

Even state of health is an estimate.

Measuring a battery capacity is not an exact science.

The only part that is reasonably accurate is energy used. So calculating miles per kwh is the standard with EVs for figuring range.

That said, even though EV owners are obsessed with “maximum range,” even calculating that is kind of pointless.

Do you ever drive from 100% charge down to 0%? Hopefully not because the trip would end with you in a tow truck.

So even with around 300 miles of “range,” you use 240 of it before charging. A precise maximum range calculation is completely unnecessary.
