What you fear you create is a good advice. If you keep looking at people to see their reactions, you might get bad looks but consider that it is very likely you that is attracting them.

I can definitely relate. I am also transitioning from a 30k car to a 160k one, so I 100% understand you and share the sentiment. But the one thing to remember is: you have earned it! You deserve it! What other people think doesn’t matter! And ultimately it is just an object. Do what you love in life and if you want to spend your hard earned money on a Porsche then that is your right!

I didn’t grow up wealthy, I’ve been very fortunate in my adult life, and this lifestyle is an adjustment for me.
It's healthy and human to feel self-conscious (maybe even slightly guilty) when consuming beyond your comfort zone, regardless of how easily it is afforded. Eventually of course your comfort zone will recalibrate.
On the specific point of it only being a car, so it can be easily replaced...good luck to anyone expecting to get a brand new replacement Taycan in their exact configuration any time soon.

I hear the general sentiment of the thread loud and clear. Relax and it’s in my head. I didn’t grow up wealthy, I’ve been very fortunate in my adult life, and this lifestyle is an adjustment for me. I do sincerely appreciate the feedback.
I think it says quite nice things about you that you are worried about it. Although we all lack balance sometimes, and don’t want that worry to ruin your enjoyment …. I think you’ll be more chill from now on having read this … but equally know.. you’re not the only one my friend

I’ve had my 22 RWD for 6 months now and LOVE IT…..BUT a significant downside is that I feel continuously and perhaps excessively overly cautious with it. Case in point I went to the supermarket today (parking far/isolated as always) in a good northern Cal neighborhood. I received a work phone call while parking and spoke for about 35 minutes in the car. Several individuals walking by checked my car out as per usual but at least 2 individuals gave me less than pleasant looks. My concern was enough that I left and later returned to the supermarket in my wife’s car. Do I need to just relax or is this degree of caution normal/appropriate? I feel like cougar in top gun 1. I’m holding on too tight.
I've had several Porsche's over time and live in NJ so understand the nervousness. Still always park far away as the extra couple of feet walking doesn't matter to me. That being said, my favorite time with my Porsche's has been when I stop feeling cautious when driving, that's when the fun starts (sometimes that first scratch is a good ice breaker). Park as far away as you want (as long as you have no physical issues) - I wouldn't feel bad about avoiding some avoidable door dings, etc. It's healthier as well.

It's a car, not Noah's Ark with a pro-trans slogan on the front of it.

Relax, don't over analyse banal situations and enjoy your car. You worked hard for it and you deserve it.

Is this your first Porsche?

What you describe is quite normal, at least to me. I always park as far out as I can, and take an end spot on the right if possible. (Every car has a driver, not every car has a passenger, which minimizes the risk.)

What I learned with my first Porsche is that NO ONE can be trusted. NO ONE.

I parked my Boxster next to the owner of the company I was working for, and he gave me a nasty door ding I had to just swallow and not say anything about.

After that...full paranoia mode, all the time. You get used to it.

As others have noted Northern California and in particular the Bay Area is the last place in US I would imagine anyone is paying particular attention to a Taycan.

I'd say just enjoy the fantastic driving experience and care less about what others might think:)

My wife and I picked up the car with just about 120km on it. The dealer probably just drove it around the lot or for some test runs.

Before the car hit 200 km, I've:

1. Scratched the right rear passenger door on an underground parking pillar. It is still visible now as we are looking to replace the ppf in another two years. I was absolutely crushed as we've only had the car for less than a month.

2. Curbed the front right Mission-E rims. Massive crunching sound as I was unaware of the side camera functionality.

Before 3,000 km's:

3. Parked under a leaky pipe in the underground lot where we park. Left a few streaks of watermarks that look permanent. Does not buff off now.

4. A mint fell into the side crease of the driver's side door that is now forever unreachable until I go in for that seat recall.

5. Found out the rear left rim hit a rock and now left a large scratch. So that's two-wheel damages in less than a year of ownership.

No major issues driving, just the occasional CarPlay hang-up.

Enjoy the car! It's made to be driven and used. That rear passenger car door scratch makes for a great conversation and laugh now.

It is amazing how ubiquitous six figure cars are around here, BUT I’d argue that there’s nothing as beautifully unique as a Taycan.

Yes it’s my first Porsche. The most expensive car I’ve ever owned before cost 39K. To some people a car just gets you from A to B but I LOVE cars. I saved for 6 years and had certain financial targets I wanted to hit before I felt comfortable buying my dream car.

There's not a damn thing wrong with trying to keep it nice.
Congratulations on your success!

It’s just a car. Whatever you earned and purchased can easily be taken away from you. Enjoy it. It’s never that serious lol

You'll be over it at some point. Taycan is a nice enough car that people will take a look at, but, not so rare that folks will give it too much attention. Plus, you won't have a catalytic converter to steal!

It's a car, meant to be enjoyed, driven and used. At some point you're guaranteed to get rocks and dents from driving around. I have a few in the PPF on my hood. RE: parking, people are the Bay don't seem to be bad with opening their doors, even when parked tight. Definitely not like the Los Angeles area where I'd assume that dents and scuffs will happen. I seem to pick up one every 2-3 trips down, big reason why I always take rentals ?
