I thought I knew everything there is to know on how to operate my Taycan. However, I am stumped by the following as I never really needed to use it before, as I charge at home and if I want to charge at the abundance of charging stations in the area, for curiosity purposes, or within say a 100-mile radius, all of them show up when I go to Navigation -> Charging Station icon screen with a Filter set to 250kW as minimum. I select one as a Charging Destination and all goes well from there with preheating of the battery and so on. However, now planning my first long trip in my own Taycan, crossing a few state lines, I thought I would just go to the map on the PCM of where I am going and either choose the EA stops on the map or search for them, however, my map is not showing or searching for them. I understand that I can go to the App and Charging and select them from there, where the search by "Electrify America Cincinnati" finds them but if I send it to the car, it comes across as a Favorite, so I have no confidence if I select it from the Nav -> Favorites they are treated as Charging stops to trigger preheating of the battery and not just Destination.

What am I doing wrong? See pictures. [SOLUTION in Post #11]

This is the List view, just by selecting the Charging Station icon, curiously only stations in my state of IN listed and nowhere else.

Porsche Taycan PCM Charging Station Search [SOLVED] 1733878282827-w3

This is the Map view. However, the stations I want to go to are near Cincinnati in Ohio, and this view or PCM search bar next to the Charging Station icon, brings up nothing. If I go to just default Map view, they show up there, but again if I select them, I have no confidence they will be treated as Charging stops since I am not selecting them from Nav -> Charing Station tab.

I am beginning to wonder as I am posting this, if the Nav - Charging Station view and station search is limited to the stations within the range bubble, just by looking at the picture below, as it sure behaves that way. Therefore, when traveling as soon as Cincinnati becomes inside the range bubble, I will start seeing those stations and only can select them at that time.

If I am understanding your quandary correctly I may have an answer. You need to have a destination input for the chargers to show up (I vaguely remember discovering this and thinking it made no sense). It won't be just stations on your route but all of them anywhere on the map. You can select one not on your route and either add it as a stop or change it to a new end destination. Or I am completely misinterpreting your dilemma.

I doubt it because Porsche's charging planner displays charging stops enroute once you set a destination.

What was your %SOC during the search? I'm guessing it was pretty low because of the picture of the bubble size and since Cincinnati is only about 110 miles (177 km) from Indianapolis.

What if you dropped the filter from 250 kW to 150 kW? Some of the older EA stations have 150 kW chargers at most.

For long trips, I plan the route in the comfort of my den rather than expect the car to do it. I like knowing where most of the charging stops are in case some are unexpectedly unavailable (crowded/vandalized/etc.) on driving day.

Thank you @gtm and @TXAG for your inputs. I will try to set my final Destination first and then Charting Stations should appear along the route available to select as Charging Stops. This is logical vs. what I was trying to do by simply moving around the map and selecting them or searching for them in the Search bar.

As far as the Filter, I realize some EA stations only offer 150kW, so my 250kW filter will not show them on the map. I actually want to see fewer stations, but my issue is that none are showing outside of the range bubble at all, in my attempt to locate them.

Yep set destination. Though I recall on out
of spec motoring video Kyle was able to select stations on a map, but he set his destination.
See minute 20:55

On my trip, while I pre-planned my charging stops, I ended using the suggested charging stops by the charge planner. I still used Plugshare to ensure they are reliable. My plan was to bypass the unreliable unit should the planner suggest it and charge at an earlier station.

You can also plan via My Porsche app. The charge tab allows you to configure many variables

It would seem to make sense that you can't select a charging station in the PCM if you don't have enough charge to get there.

If you want to find a charging station close to a place, search that place and then click on the 3 dots next to the name and search station nearby. You can then filter and see only the 250…
I often type a highway area name or even if it’s sent via the app then click on the 3 dots to be sure it’s recognized as a high power charging station. You could have a level 2 just next to it.
If it’s unclear, I’ll try to take some pictures

That is what I was looking for is how to dial into the area and then tell the PCM to find Charging Stations to select from. What I am doing wrong is searching for the area in the Nav -> Charging Icon screen where I should be doing it in a regular Map screen then doing 3-dot Near By as you are describing. Awesome tip!

That is what I figured, which is logical. Therefore, trying to understand the logic behind, the Nav -> Charging Icon screen is there to only show you the Charging Stations within the Range bubble to quickly pick from List or Map and go. I like that as long as I know now that how it is setup to work.

I finally with the inputs from this thread accomplished what I wanted, which is how do you see Charging Stations outside of the Range bubble.

Pre thread inputs the process is to create a Favorite of the target vicinity (i.e., Cincinnati), then 3-dots pop up, show me Charging Stations Near By and boom, here it is below.

The advantage of this method using PCM vs. other methods is to see current conditions in real time with option to select one station over the other.

Correct the default is search parameter is your current location. You need to set it to your destination. I played with this yesterday based on your query here. I still prefer to use the phone app. You still need to set a destination, but you can search on a map all the chargers on the way. I also like how on the app, you can set you map the charge parameters.

Not what you were asking but I do most road trip and charging stop planning on computer not PCM.
--Use google maps to find EA charging stations along route. Supplement/refine with plugshare map.
--List all potential charging stops along the route on a spreadsheet showing distances from each stop to the next charging sites.
--From that list pick the site that is one stop closer than the furthest stop in range (gives me a backup site in range in case planned site is not operational or busy).
--Add all the charging sites along the route to PCM nav favorites so I can see status during trip.
--When I am at a site charging, use the spreadsheet showing distances to remaining chargers to help me decide how much charging to do at that site. For example, charging a bit longer may allow me enough range to skip a planned charging site.

For planning a road trip, locating potential charging sites with google maps and plugshare map (and EA map) is a lot easier than fiddling with the PCM.

I watched this video. I obviously do not have the facility with the software that he has. But, on a trip we were targeting at EA stations for obvious reasons and I have never achieved over 200kW. Mostly charging speed is around 120 kW regardless of whether it claims 300 or 150 kW. I set a destination each time to optimize battery temp. Not sure what I’m doing wrong. ‘23 GTS

I would lower that 250kw minimum to 50kw. There's not a lot of very high power DC chargers out there. And many high power DC chargers still won't give you the rated output. On multiple occasions, I have connected to 350kw chargers and only got about 80kw of delivery. You really limit the amount of charging options with that 250 number. Chargers are very few and far between let alone relying on finding something that is 250 or more.
