In terms of waiting till after the summer and enjoying it for a few months first, that's EXACTLY what I'd do.

That's made my mind up then, thanks. I'd rather use my local guy who I know is amazing and at this stage I'd rather have an extra week of enjoying the car in the summer (if it ever arrives) (the summer)(and the car)

The GTechniq application service the dealers offer is vastly inferior to what you would get from a dedicated detailing company. The fact that they have so much margin to play with is testament to that.

It really is the same old “Supaguard” con of old but with a sexier name.

My car is currently with my local detailer. Been using them for years and their work is unparalleled. Went in on Monday and won’t be ready for me to collect till Saturday. There’s no way the OPCs are spending a similar amount of time on them.

GTechniq is a great brand with excellent products but I’m just not convinced that the OPCs are doing as thorough a job. Especially as it’s the machine polishing stage prior to coating application that’s the most important and time consuming part of the job.

Having said all of that, there is an option for PPF listed on some used cars on the approved used Porsche site and the "body-care" in question could be that, rather than GTechniq coating.

£1200. That’s for a full decontamination wash (gets rid of iron, tar etc), 2-stage machine polish of the whole car then coatings applied. The coating is cured using infrared heat-lamps and the car then needs to sit for 2 days. There’s a specialist coating for the textured plastics and the interior leather and race-tex is all being coated as well (that gets done whilst the exterior coating is curing).

All exterior rubbers and plastics get cleaned and treated. Along with glass etc.

That price doesn’t include the wheels which I never usually bother getting done as I always end up getting them refurbed eventually anyway.

Whole process takes 5 full days and I’m not allowed to wash the car for a full week after I get it back.

I’ve got an Audi TTS as a weekend toy. That was the last car he did for me a few months ago and this was the result. It’s an 8 year-old car….

I was torn on the PPF as I was always of the opinion that if a stone chips that you're having to pay to have it replaced too.

However, I was sold on it as it's A) cheaper to do that than paint an entire body panel and B) the PPF the detailer uses does self heal to some degree so, if it's a small enough stone chip, the PPF will need back together almost like skin.

Given the value of the car and the fact I'm going to have it for a few years, it's worth that outlay dear as it is on the face of it.

It will protect the trade in value to some degree.

My local bodyshop is quoting £1140 for gtechniq (paint, glass, wheels, interior) which (currently, pre-haggling) is the same as the dealer. Probably a better job. My issue is whether I can bare to pick up the car and then hand it over for another week after such a long wait, or whether to just trust the dealer will do a fairly ok job and then just collect already done (admittedly still with a delay, but without having to give it away again after).

Ask your dealer if they have a preferred partner detalier as using inhouse isn't the only option at some dealers. At the time when I bought my car Hatfield were forwarding cars to Azuri Car care and East London were sending their cars the Topaz. Both highly thought of. Both will collect from the dealer, complete the work, take the car back to the dealer ready for collection day. Admittedly this will add another week or so but you save the logistics headache of collecting, dropping off and collecting again.

I checked and they use a detailer who's round the corner - I've checked them out and they get great reviews etc. My dilemma is whether I can wait another week or not, but as you rightly point out, the logistics are easier with the dealer doing it from the get-go

Needless to say I like a bargain!

My business partner has had it for the last couple of months whilst he's waiting on his (delayed) Taycan arriving. I'm looking forward to getting it back though. It's great for throwing around country lanes and the exhaust note is terrific!

Can anyone recommend any detailers in the Hampshire/ Berkshire area?

Looking to get GTechniq Ceramic coatings professionally applied on my upcoming 4S.

So, something like...

Stage 1 polish - prep [I don't think a Stage 2 should be needed]
Paint protected (CS Ultra or CS Light, topped with EXO4 or something)
All Glass cleaned and sealed (G1 or something)
Alloy Wheels removed, cleaned and then sealed (with C5 or similar)
All Exterior trim (C4 or similar)
All Interior plastics (C4)
Interior Leather Cleaned and sealed

I think the above used to be the standard Gtechniq new car detail... but it has been a few years sine I got my other car done, so maybe things have moved on.

1) Any recommendations of detailers?
2) Approximate costs?
3) Anything I have missed from the detail?
