I put mine on the passenger side because I didn’t want to see it from the drivers side. It doesn’t really fit well there horizontally if you want to be able to remove it from the mount (recommended). It worked perfectly though. If I were to install it again, I’d mount it vertically along side the plastic for even more invisibility. This is Porsche recommended location.

Last minute panic!!!

Someone has told me I need a Crit'Air sticker for my car, which I'm told takes at least 10 days to arrive (and I only have 7 days until my trip)....

I thought these were just for driving in certain (larger) cities?

I'm driving from Calais on the main route down towards St Jean de Losne (South of Dijon), which is basically A26 -> A5 -> A31 -> A39.

Can someone put my mind at rest?!
Thanks

edited to add:
It would appear that I probably don't need one, but at < £5 it's worth getting one and the receipt is valid even if the actual sticker doesn't arrive in time.

Mine arrived in less than seven days, so you may receive the sticker in time.

I understand that they need to be mounted on the bottom right hand corner of the windscreen so that they continue to work once cameras are used to make automatic checks sometime next year.

The Norwegian "AutoPASS" unit, which I expect is the same technology, works very well when put under the hood, above the front trunk. Maybe that's a good alternative for you too.

Can someone confirm that there is an Ionity charging station at Langres Noidant going Northbound on the A31 in France?

We stopped at the one at Langres (Perrogney-les-Fontaines), and the Ionity charging map seems to suggest there is one going North, but Google maps doesn’t seem to recognise it.

Thanks

Yes there is an Ionity station there. Check on your MyPorsche app and you will find it!

I have stopped there a couple of times with varying success though. There seems to be a problem with capacity perhaps. I have had to change stalls and also phone callls to the helpline at least 3 times . It is also very often quite busy, but it certainly is there.
Google maps is not that great as yet with charging stations, use Ionity, MyPorsche or ChargeFinder to see information.. The PCM should also pick it up easily

Just back from my 1,400km trip from the UK to the Bourgogne region of France.

In due course I’ll do a write-up of the trip covering my experiences of the car and the ease of charging on a long trip, but for now I want a beer and to relax!

I just wanted to thank everyone who contributed to the various pieces of information that helped make my trip easier and much less stressful than it would otherwise have been.

Nice you made it! Was your Porsche Charge card accepted everywhere in France?

I had no problem using the card for Ionity stations in France.

Glad you had a good trip! For the benefit of others (well, me..) when you get chance would you be able to summarise what the result of this thread was? what you actually needed and which bits of advice were really valuable?

Well... being french, I'll try to be useful here.
1) Triangle and yellow vest ARE mandatory. If you have to pull over for any reason, you'll need them.

2) For payment on highways, Visa or Mastercard are accepted in automated payment machines at the tollbooth but can be tricky to use for RHD vehicle if no one is seating on the passenger side. The Bip&go type of badge is certainly the way to go. https://www.bipandgo.com/

3) Headlights need to be adjusted accordingly with the drive side but the Taycan seems to automatically set them based on GPS location.

4) Crit'Air sticker is NOT mandatory everywhere. It's been enforced only in small zones of a few cities (ZFE: low emission zone) : Grenoble, Lyon, Paris. Taycan as any other VE is classified Crit'air 0 and is allowed to circulate in these ZFE. Sticker can be purchased here: https://www.certificat-air.gouv.fr/ and will be useful only if you drive thru these ZFE.

5) Speed cameras are basically everywhere. You can advantageously subscribe to Coyote App (Carplay compatible) and avoid most of them. DON'T Speed 50 km/h+ above limit: your car could be immobilized for one full week.

6) Police forces are discreet and you won't see them very frequently. In case of Police check, you'll be asked to show your driving license, insurance proof, car registration proof and possibly your passeport.
In touristic areas, alcohol testing is more frequent. So don't drink&drive.

7) There are 4 or 5 main Supercharger networks (300KW+) currently being deployed and their density is actually quite good now
FastNed,
Engie
TotalEnergy
Ionity
To take full advantage of them, you'll need a Chargemap card (20Euros) and app that will allow you to speedy charge nearly everywhere. https://chargemap.com/

8) Enjoy!

Little to add to this but back recently from a 1900 mile round trip to Marseille and back for the RWC opening weekend.

1) CHARGING. Used IONITY pretty much solely all the way from the Holiday Inn at Coquelles to Provence. Only ever had to use Total once as one of the southbound stations only had 2 pedestals and a) I managed to make a total goat of getting around the car park (is it just me or are some Aire layouts absolutely Byzantine?) and b) both were full. Every other time it was banks of available IONITY (some stations are utterly magnificent in their scale) and plug and charge worked every time bar one, oddly at the mega-station at Rousset north of Cassis, but the app started it up with no issues. Utterly seamless. Seems to me that France has great infrastructure and few people are buying the cars, as opposed to the situation over here.

2) TOLLS. SANEF tag. Even if it’s a one-off visit, the convenience of filing into the lane with both the orange T and the 30 kph sign is peerless. You’ll save a worthwhile amount of time, and the 30kph lane means you won’t have to come to a halt.

3) UK STICKER. I stuck an adhesive one on the rear screen. Easy to remove and no risk to the paintwork.

4) IN CAR REQUIREMENTS. We had the driver‘s hi-viz in the glovebox and the rest in the boot along with the triangle. As my car is leased I had to take a VE103B in lieu of the V5C and the usual insurance, licence etc.

5) CRIT-AIR. Ordered mine far too late and it arrived the day I returned. The email when I ordered it though said (I think) that one could show the email as proof of having purchased one. For 5 euros I thought it was better done than not.

6) LE SHUTTLE. Automatically recognises the Taycan as a candidate for the “high” carriage and so no issues. Much less jeopardy in width on those carriages!

Given the much higher average speeds of French autoroutes the range took a bit of a hammering and we often had 180 miles or less, although some of this may be due to the sheer weight of insect protein we kepT gathering up on the frontal surfaces!

Only really felt a little twitchy once as there’s a bit of an IONITY dead spot Northbound from Reims to Calais (by this point we were on somewhat of a mission to be IONITY wherever possible) so we charged to 99% at Champfleury at the E. Leclerc Hypermarche and then set off to IONITY at Coquelles Holiday Inn (where we planned to stay the night after having done Cassis to Calais in the day). All seemed pretty good and was showing c 14% until the rain and wind arrived and we crept in with 5% but no great conniptions had by me. My passenger, an EV virgin, spent the last 20 miles or so commenting on the range decrease…..

Overall, an absolute no-brainer and a great GT road trip weapon.
