From reading these forums for a few months, the general consensus seems to be the Porsche dashcam is garbage and obtrusively large. I was going to order it until I read the posts about it and decided to go with a FitCamX which has an OEM look and is powered by the rain sensor behind the mirror. A LOT of people have gone with a BlackVue.

The $130 pre-wire isn’t a big deal on the overall price of these cars. If you ordered the Porsche cam, I assume you can return it before it’s installed and pick up a FitCam or BlackVue.

How do you like the Fitcamx? I’m on the fence between this and blackvue. Was the install hard? I know there’s other threads but they are all over the place with love and hate.

Sorry, I wasn’t completely clear… I’ve placed my order but waiting on production so I don’t have hands on experience with it, yet. But, I’m gonna go with the FitCam when the time comes mostly because of the OEM look and the wiring seems pretty easy. I’m not concerned with the battery back up and parking mode of the BV.

Something else to keep in mind is the description of the Porsche cam says that wireless Car Play functionality is lost when using the cam.

Do we think that from here on out, anyone that does NOT option the "Dashcam Pre-wire" from the factory and then decides to mess around with any of the wirings to retrofit a Dashcam, may find themselves having a battle with Porsche regarding warranties?

The fact that it's a zero-cost option (in the UK at least) tells me that it should come as standard across the range to avoid any warranty-based issues going forward.

I don't think anyone has actually received a car with the pre-wire installed as of yet but is it safe to assume it will be some form of universal power supply (mini USB for example)
Therefore a whole host of 3rd party Dashcams will be compatible?

I had loaner Taycans and 718s with this installed.

Not obtrusive at all IMHO.

Feature set may not match 3rd party units nor is it clear that the pre-wiring will support other brands.

I assume the pre wire will terminate with the square connectors used on the Porsche and Audi dashcam so not compatible with anything else

You're most likely correct. Disappointing but predictably Porsche. Maybe there are adaptors

or maybe Porsche/Audi needs to update their dashcams to keep up with the competition. I don't mind going full OEM if the spec is improved.

I talked with a tech in a Porsche dealer (one who works on Taycans there) and apparently there is a different option to order front+back, vs. just front. He's never seem the front+back yet so couldn't tell me what the difference is, but he wasn't very impressed with the front-only Porsche dashcam. He did tell me that if you don't have prewire it costs more to get it retrofitted, but possible, at least for the front.

More importantly, there is one thing which nobody seems to be mentioning, but I found on the Suncoast site here.
Suncoast Note: For cars with wireless Apple CarPlay, you lose wireless capability when using the Dash Cam. You will have to connect your phone via cable while using the Dash Cam.
I ordered the pre-wire planning to check out the Porsche solution, but if I didn't like it, the pre-wire still gives me at least a power connection to the mirror and the back window, which IMO is worth the $130 price. Given everything I know now, I'm going with plan-B, which is to install a front+back 4K Blackvue solution I use on all of our family cars. Hoping to be able to use the dashcam prewire for at least power.

Yuck. I was wondering if it would be a connector that could be used with other brands. Too bad. I wonder if the cable could be cut and adapted to a standard connector.

What’s a standard dashcam connector? 12V cigarette lighter one?

I have contacted a YouTube , he is expert on porsche cars and he confirmed with me that the option doesn’t come with connectors but will have the wiring done , which make it much easier to connect external equipments .
