There is a video somewhere showing water coming over the bonnet. Apparently all was fine, but I won’t be trying it!

you'd be surprised about how resilient to water the undercarriage to any car is; when you drive in the rain at high speeds on the highway it isn't too dissimilar from having multiple high-pressure washers pointed at under your car, and for extended periods of time.

Consequently, the battery and the cabling are all fully waterproofed and don't really risk much. The scariest part though is the potential for water ingress in the cabin and the resulting smell/mould etc. The door joints on the taycan are probably not designed like those on a Range Rover, meaning they don't have perfect seels that can withstand 50cm of water pressure...

"This submitter took his Porsche Taycan through deep water thinking electric cars cannot be choked"

Ha, I thought too that a Taycan cannot be choked as there is no air intake (right?).

So, why did the car in there video stop running halfway? I guess a short in the electronics? perhaps in the 12V battery as the water came really high?

(Regardless, unbelievable how someone could take such a beautiful car into standing water , yikes!)

You take your car out in the rain!?
i take it in the rain, snow and slush. Even after the roads have been salted… In fact the CT is our favourite car to go skiing becausewe can preheat the cabin when we know we’re on our way back…

bit I would not take it in more than 20cm of water

exactly. Water seeping into the cabin will damage a huge amount of things and the mold may be impossible to remove

Theoretically an electric car can drive under water.
If it's salty water you might get a shortcircuit at some point but in fresh water you'll be fine*.
Practically I wouldn't try it out though. ?

*it all has to do with conductivity, fresh water has low conductivity cuz of the low amount of free ions.
Salt water has lots of them.
