I had a few days in a Macan EV recently and was very impressed by the PCM

You are mounting an argument on the theoretical advantage of an open OS which completely ignores the reality of the experience delivered by PCM6 on J1.2, or the reality of the experience as delivered on the Macan EV in its current implementation.

Which you can read for yourself:
https://www.macanevowners.com/forum/threads/pcm-blackout.20214/
https://www.macanevowners.com/forum/threads/a-good-thwack-rebooting-pcm-occasionally….21333/
https://www.macanevowners.com/forum/threads/is-xm-in-the-macan-ev-less-reliable.21297/
The reality is that most people that went from pcm6 to the new one consider it an improvement.

it’s still far below what a low budget Chinese ev offers, and below Tesla/rivian/lucid; so people coming from those won’t be impressed.

But it has the capability to be much better, because the software stack allows improvements, which PCM6 does not, as basic updates can brick the hardware that runs PCM6:)

Much better if you fall in the trap of confusing a car for a media tablet.

A Porsche needs to be very good at being responsive, precise and predictable. This is diametrically opposed to the craving for gimmickware, needless changes and infuriatingly dumb automation that Tesla has bred and too many replicate.

I would be perfectly happy if my PCM is never updated.

Good for you.

But we are talking about the updates to MY26, one of them being the new PCM, and not about how predictibly bad porsche is when it comes to EVs

So, if you would be so kind, if you have nothing beside: "hurrr duurr, back in my day technology was scribling with stones on cave walls" spam, no need to post.

Since it's not a 2nd facelift, this will likely be the only big change, and it will be apprciated by the majority, and definitely the chinese market. It's not for you, we got it, you'd rather not have automated windows either, so you don't have to buy it

I am with you @ze_shark, I did not think to point @chun to the macan ev forum to see what a nightmare the new PCM is exactly because of its new OS platform. I do agree with @chun that the layout is pretty much a copy of the Taycan J2 PCM as I was hammering which to me is a big step back from more logical J1 PCM layout.

Let me be specific. This kind of change that is not user friendly. Ask me how many people asked where do I find this feature in the PCM. Do not get me started on the Audi poison reversed logic of the Assistance stalk change. I was struggling the whole time using it on my 500 mile round trip in Macan EV loaner.

And your example is again a button :)

This is old man saying: "nokia was better, the buttons were clear, no separate app for call, so non-intuitive" when smart phones launched.

Again, the operating systems is much better, and things like this are now a simple change. If you wanted to make a similar change like that on PCM6, it would require probably a whole new recall campaign, with hardware replacment for when inevitably the software completely bricks the car :)

Discussion derailed a bit on the PCM. Anyone aware of any other changes w/ MY26?

You can attempt to ridicule all you want, but your arguments are incoherent.

You bitch and whine ad nauseam throughout this forum about how awful Porsche in general and the Taycan in particular is, and how brilliant chinese EVs are, yet you own a Taycan (plus another Porsche).

So it must be because they get certain things very right that others don't ?
Which have to do with the core DNA of Porsche and not the gimmickry that you otherwise appear to worship ? If not, free yourself and buy an Xpeng or BYD, and live a happier life. Both are imported in Switzerland.

All we need from Porsche (I say 'we' because i do not believe that your point-of-view is prevalent at all) is relevant innovation in car configurability (chassis, powertrain) and competent functionality for the unavoidable features necessary to EVs.

The things they get right is that Xiaomi is not yet available in Europe

Sadly the market already proved that your needs don’t coincide with the needs of the majority - porsche sales plummeted in the world and reached close to 0 in China, requiring them to close a lot of dealerships and slow down manufacturing capacity.

Let’s talk facts :)

I posted a bit above; my26 is not a 2nd facelift. Beside PCM, no other big change announced.

Any other changes will be small, maybe additional color and interior trims, maybe a version 3 of the heater, maybe they bring back 22kw charger. We won’t know until they release the car / make the configurator avaliable

Trolling, but carefully avoiding the substantive questions. Again, why do you own two Porsches including a Taycan ?

You want to talk facts ?
2024 sales: down 3% yoy, but up 5.4% ex-China. China where nobody non-chinese is performing.

Porsche Taycan Technical changes with MY26 1751133562425-ra

25Q1 was weak, -8% WW but again +1.1% ex-China, in a +4.8% US market/-1.9% EU market.
So somehow, this bad-bad-bad product offering is not performing that poorly ?

How does this build an argument that Android will deliver a superior Taycan experience ?

Cute.

what didn’t you understand from my answer? I have a porsche because Xiaomi is not yet available :) That doesn’t make porsche good, it makes it avaliable.

I can't find any information about the J1.2 getting Android Automotive PCM. From what I have been told it will be an hardware upgrade of the MIB3 plattform to make it more responsive (faster cpu, more memory) and new software features. But I guess we will know in september since they close down everything at Porsche in august.
