Using the TeslaTap

Has anyone used a TeslaTap before on other EVs or their Taycan? Does it actually do an effective job a charging EVs that aren't Teslas? From what I've seen it works well on destination chargers.

you don't need a TeslaTap for europe - only North America - and once vendors have moved to NACS in 2024/2025 you won't need a Tesla Tap then either…

it's only for L2 Tesla Chargers in North America.

But it works for _ANY_ J-1772 based North American EV with a Tesla L2 EVSE.

I have one and use it at home with my wife’s Tesla L2 charger. It works perfectly and seems well made.

They don’t work on the “smart” Tesla chargers that sync on VIN.

I've used a Tesla Tap for over three years for my Taycan, as I have a Tesla charger as my mobile charger. Works perfectly with a Taycan and has survived the heavy rains in the Pacific NW when using outdoors.

They don’t work on the “smart” Tesla chargers that sync on VIN.

You can turn that feature off on the charger. You just have to log into the web interface on the Tesla charger.

I have used the Lectron Tesla Tap at home as I have a Tesla level 2 charger installed from previous model x ownership. the Tesla Tap has worked flawlessly in charging a BMW ix, Porsche Taycan , and Lucid Air. I would highly recommend it.

Same here. I use my wife’s Tesla level 2 home EVSE with an 80amp Teslatap and it works fine.

it is another tool that should be in your toolbox. many hotels have tesla chargers and the teslatap give you access to those chargers.

it's more necessary/useful than a mobile EVSE - I use my TeslaTap way way way more than I ever use my mobile/portable EVSE…
