I was not planning to extend the warranty on my 2021 Taycan. It is expensive and it seems to me that the "wear and tear" carve-out will become more relevant with the passage of time. Then again, repairing that thing is also expensive and there are voices here admonishing me not to own a Taycan without a warranty. There are sure many threads on this forum complaining about this malfunction or the other but my overall impression is that most complaints fall into the categories of 1) software malfunctions (like "cannot log into PCM"); 2) Recalls and 3) worries about the HV battery. None of these concerns are covered by the general warranty (I have 4 years left on the battery), so simple question to readers to help me make a decision:

When (in terms of "x months ago when my car was y months old") did you last successfully had what broken bit on your Taycan repaired on warranty?

Thank you.

Just a week into my extended warranty period my boot didn’t open. Saved me a 7k bill. Happened for the second time due to water/leak issues. Warranty for 3 years did cost 5k. Real saving is 2k. Have 2,5 years left. Will probably extend with another 3 years. But a lot can happen in 2,5 years. Maybe I’m driving next gen then.

I would never own a Porsche without a warranty. It's crazy how much the dealership charge for basic stuff.

For example, I had a air suspension shock replaced on a cayenne turbo 6 years ago. Cost was around 8-9k. That was for one shock. Luckily I had fidelity that covered it.

the Dealership also wanted 2k to change out 8 spark plugs (coils were extra). Did it myself with basic hand tools. Took 2 hours, and I was going slowly, taking my time. Talk about mark up.

I would not own a Taycan without an extended warranty. Too expensive to fix. My on board charger module was $7,000.00 to replace. The extended warranty was $4,000.00. There's not much you can repair on a Taycan for under $4,000.00.

Consider me shocked. 1) an air spring is a wear and tear item which I would never expect a warranty to cover (unless perhaps it leaked within a few 1000 miles). 2) I used to pay £300 per side on my BMW5 just for the spring; fitted it was easily under £1000. Now, the Taycan has 4 and I have almost their expected service life on the clock... :(

I am actually surprised how there are so few mentions of the air springs on this forum.

Not a Taycan but I think relevant...

I had a Panamera (MY18) with a Porsche extended warranty and had 2 door handles replaced when the comfort-lock touch sensors stopped working - completely free to me, including the loan car while the work was done. OK, I could have lived without the comfort locking but I believe it shows what sort of thing Porsche's own warranty covers. As others have said: there's plenty to go wrong on a Taycan, and they're mighty expensive to fix when they do.

Extended warranty will pay for itself, especially if said part requires replacement, which in turn also requires a bunch of other things to be recalibrated--those costs start adding up the more camera/sensors you have.

Also, when outside of manufacturer warranty/CPO, dealers charge their full labor costs. So, not having any warranty is very risky to your pocket.

Air springs were a problem area for the cayenne.

I have nothing but good things to say about fidelity warranty. They covered both the rear diff and center diff. when they went out. Over 5k each. I think the rear was closer to 10k.

Going naked is a poor choice when the alternative is a reasonable expense (this is a 6 figure car after all).

I purchased the PFS EV PLAT VSC IN WARRANTY - 48mo/60k $250 Deductible for $4776 plus sales tax from the local Porsche dealer, and at that price it will pay for itself with one major part failure (e.g., On-board Charger, Headlight, Comfort Access, etc.).

I'm OK paying for new brakes, new tires, a new 12V battery once every few years, and other maintenance issues, but even if no major failure requiring warranty service occurs,I sleep better at night knowing that the big stuff is covered.

I had never expected this thread to be so slow. Given the frequent admonitions "you must buy warranty", I had expected a slew of reports of warranty claims. Instead, the silence here suggests the Taycan is rock-solid.

I've never dealt with Porsche warranties specifically before, so I'm going to make a very generalized warranty argument. I'd like to hear from others if/how Porsche cars specifically deviate from this.

The general idea of warranty purchases is that the company wants to come out on top on average given what they charge for the warranty. You're buying a warranty to expect to lose money but assure yourself that if you get unlucky, you won't get financially stressed. On average, buying the warranty is a money loss, but it makes you feel safer.

If that doesn't hold true, Porsche isn't making money on warranty purchases and would be incentivized to raise their prices.

Of course. And as this thread stands, Porsche are making a lot of money (from selling warranties). Let me remind posters who don't wanna page back to the OP that I am not asking your counsel re warranty. Please post only your successful warranty repairs of the past.

Thank you again.
