Hi there,

I’m looking for some advice. I’ve owned my 4S cross turismo since October 2023. Everything has worked perfectly except for the continuous stream of recalls on the car.

last month a warning light popped up on the dashboard “power steering failure, safe to drive, visit workshop”. I immediately arranged for the car to go into my local centre in Leicester and that visit happened yesterday.

I was told an immutable error is coming from the steering rack and that the whole unit needs to be replaced. But to my absolute shock this repair wouldn’t be covered under warranty due to light scuffing on the passenger side front alloy, which indicates an impact that may have caused the undiagnosed issue.

given the number of cars at the centre yesterday with similar light scuffing then all of the vehicles should be experiencing similar issues.

The service person, who was helpful, explained that they were following the procedure and that the next course of action was to complain to HQ.

has anyone experienced anything similar or can offer some advice please?

any help is greatly appreciated

thanks

That sounds off. Try another dealer but sounds outrageous to be honest.

Are you sure that it's not a random software glitch?

The car spent the whole day with them yesterday and they couldn’t get rid of the warning but we’re not getting a proper error code. It’s worth noting the car handles fine and if the light wasn’t on you wouldn’t know there was an issue.

I'm genuinely in shock as this is my first Porsche and first contact with the warranty service.

The PCM was updated yesterday and still the warning remains.

Here’s a photo of the scuff

If that is a large enough scuff to damage Porsche steering column to require replacement, then Porsche really has shifted their engineering to making fragile garage decorations, rather than performance cars. Since I don't think this is the case, at least yet (unless the portion of customers who buy a Porsche just to PPF them and show them off in their garage and an occasional parade has grown dramatically recently) I suspect this is the dealer trying to make some money - they definitely get to charge customers more than warranty pay for the same repair. They might also have some metric from Porsche on how many warranty claims they helped avoid. I've seen it done for decades, from all brands.

No way on earth that would reasonably cause a steering rack fault. If it did, nearly every Taycan in the country would need a new steering rack.

Have they confirmed what needs doing to get rid of the light? With no definite error code, I'd want them to confirm that first....but as they'll likely charge for that, tell them to escalate for you.

Have the rim repaired at a non dealer shop then take the car back to the dealer. Repairing a rim is pretty cheap.

they haven’t confirmed. The next step is to replace the steering rack. I’ve emailed Porsche head office with my complaint so will await their reply.

it’s absolute nonsense to try to link these two things. I’m glad all of you agree.

Geez...Some Porsche dealers are starting to sound more and more like Ferrari dealers!! At least in the UK.

In UK there has been a change in the last few years to the way Porsche warranty is handled in as much as any outside influence can void a claim.

How could it be different between UK and other countries? Most dealers are Porsche owned, so what could be the difference in warranty handling?

Probably no difference but I can only go my expedience. Well worth having the wheel refurbished before going to a different dealer that way they cannot say outside influence might have caused the fault - which we all agree is unreasonable in this case.

Out of interest, have they given you a quote for the work they feel is involved?

In the UK only 5 out of 25-30 official Porsche dealerships are Porsche owned, so there unfortunately may be variability in cost and problem solving ability
