People who pride themselves on never buying a car as expensive as my Porsche's and wouldn't be caught dead believing paying more for something might mean it's actually better in some dimensions get into my cars all the time. And most of them comment - wow this is a nice car - and then follow up with the statement for hte record but I'd never be caught dead paying that much for a car - it's just stupid - but wow this is a nice car…they can not reconcile paying too much money for something that is better than average (and let's be clear we all pay too much money for our Porsches) - but their is nothing quite like them on the market…and once you know, experience, and understand the differences - it's oh so hard to go back and nothing else ever quite scratches the itch…
I have known people who truly don't appreciate the fine aspects of a car, they treat purely as transportation, so they value reliability over anything else. They might enjoy softer ride (not a Taycan) but they don't miss it if it's not there. One of my best friends is like that, he's driven better cars and doesn't care. On the other hand he spends tons of money on home theater equipment, something which I don't have much appreciation for, even though I have experienced his very expensive setup. I also know people who value usability, so they will love their Teslas despite whatever issues they face - the best thing or them is the intuitive user experience, and I bet if FSD ever comes to fruition, they will also just always use that while sitting on the back seat using their devices.

I'd jump at the chance to stop being a Porsche victim - if only I could find something that even comes close…
I hear great things about Rimac Nevera, both as a daily driver and its fun/performance characteristics. Too much money for me, but perhaps once you try it, nothing else will ever scratch that itch. ;)

The reality is that as of today; there isn't a better looking, very good performance and prestigious (all terms relative !) EV car other than the Taycan at the moment.

Enjoy it... until something really good comes along. Live with the few (or many !) niggles, issues it has.... but it is still the best 'drivers' EV car.

My Taycan lease is coming up to an end; and since I was not keen on other Taycan at the moment - I am deciding to go for a 911 instead. Maybe perhaps the last ICE car that I buy...

As rule of thumb the EV experience is truly enjoyable if you have access to other cars. It really solve the issue with servicing, delays in repair… so you get to use your nice EV always when it works properly…
My real disappointment with Jen 1.1 wasn’t the electrical or software glitches, of which I am not interested nor worried (talking of which, rear parking sensors not working at the moment…). It was the brakes line upgrade after brakes recall. After that the brakes never worked properly again to the point it wasn’t right. Porsche didn’t take it seriously to the point I had to call Porsche assist to collect the car cause not safe to drive. The AAA came to collect the car and drove it to the dealers. The driver on his way back said: My transit brakes better.
It is at that point the Porsche dealers made a smart move and turned a very angry client into a new customer leaving his old car for a repair and driving a brand new car out the shop instead…

1. No EV alternative. Taycan is the best, as an EV sports sedan (driving experience and prestige minus reliability).

2. 992.2 Carrera S.

Last of a kind (only ICE), that is a proven tech (turbo only).

The entire 992.3 or 994.1 911 model range (whatever named) will be t-hybrid with the reason of EURO 7 regulations valid from November 2027.

So 992.2 S and Base are the last only ICE 911 Carrera, that guarantees reliability and high long term value at the same time. As a + it is 992.1 GTS tech.

What else can we wish as a burnt Taycan owners(?).

@prj thoughts on the EV M3? How come that doesn’t make the list? I guess we don’t know much about it yet other than the quad motor layout.
I’m hoping the i3 M Touring will be available here in North America. Its potential availability in 2028 matches up when my Taycan will be at over 100k miles.
Either that or I’ll try to convince myself that the iX4 M is merely a somewhat bloated wagon and not a pointlessly squashed / squished SUV.

My Taycan is 4 years old. Today at a ski resort in Austria, a group of youngsters walks by and you hear: 'Sie haben ein schönes Auto!'.

There is no substitute.
In the UK (where the OP is) you have no option but to use substitutes.

The amount of time waiting to get into the dealers and lack of loan cars means you need to get used to 3rd party transport.

You end up driving your partners car, or whatever loaner the dealers/Enterprise put you in.

If the OP is really at a stage where he is worried about actually taking the Taycan on a trip due to reliability - its not fit for purpose imo.

And he's far from the only one in here, so its not an isolated Lemon.

Time to move on to something more reliable.

that's the problem with this entire thread - the assertion that there is a viable alternative to the Taycan…there simply isn't - there are however acceptable compromise choices, but they are all a compromise - no question…

there is no alternative.
That is very true. I have been looking for some time and have test driven dozens, but not found anything as good as the Taycan for driving dynamics (when it works).

We have a BMW i4 basic model and that has not had a single hiccup in two years. I did hve tyre/wheel problems, booked a service online within a few days. BMW provided a loaner, iX directly without asking for it. They also provided a detailed report of all the checks they had done, plus updates to the OS etc.

Our i4 does not have the performance etc of the Taycan, but it drives like like a BMW and very well at that.

The only thing I am not so impressed with is the charging performance since it is a 400 volt architecture. The charging curve falls off a cliff rapidly for long road trips. And once you have charged 200 kWh ’s in a day it throttles the charging even more to save the battery. That would rule out any i5m60 for us.

I had a F10 M5, which I sold after getting my Taycan. That is one thing I deeply regret! But getting an ICE car in France now is just silly waste of money! The MALUS tax for a performance car like M5 is 80.000 Euros!

Same for the Netherlands, CO2-tax.
On a base 911 you pay €30.000 extra.
For us the base 911 qualifies for 80 kEuro as well! The CO2 emission limit for hitting 80KEuro is at 190 g/km I think

Xiaomi is coming by end of year in limited quantity, at least to German markets.

Wider availability by end of 2027.

They are also updating their platform, facelift style. They just updated base and middle spec; top spec facelift not yet revealed but it will likely get similar tech to PAR by Q2.

And as much as people deny it, it did beat porsche around the nurburing, so it’s not such a “bad” car by comparision. And tech wise, and as a daily, it’s far above porsche.

And if leaks are to be believed, they will debut their 2 seater premium sports platform in the European market by end of 2027
