Not for me. I don't drive enough on a daily basis to require charging so quickly at home. The nearest Level 3 charger is 10 minutes from home.

Lots of sun here in Arizona USA. I set my PMC+ to 50% (4.8 kW) and charge between 9 AM and 3 PM when the sun is overhead and my solar panels are generating over 5 kW.

What are the steps and pitfalls of using Tesla stations? I see the adapters for sale, is that all one needs?
You need a Tesla magic dock (there are very few so far) or wait until they open the network to VAG probably around 2025, I think it is.

There are a few use scenarios in the US where the higher AC charging would be a good thing, but that seems the exception rather than the rule. Refer to my prior post in this thread to see whether your driving needs would fit this category.

[...] So... why did I get 19.2kW - because I have seen some chargers around me that can go up that high, and as infrastructure gets upgraded, I want to have the ability to charge faster.
Taycan is not that rational choice in the first place... neither is 19.2kW... but I wanted it :)
I was about to write that no way does New England have such chargers, but I filtered PlugShare and ... huh, quite a few, especially in the greater Boston metro area.
But for future infrastructure upgrades, my impression is that no such initiatives to install those going forward. Too bad though, since not all that much slower than a frequently derated EA CCS1, and probably far less expensive to purchase and install than even a lame 50kW CCS1, and probably far less tricky to maintain properly.

Interesting. So if using the Tesla network requires a magicdock equipped Tesla station, the adapters sold are strictly for home use with Tesla home charging equipment?

19.2 kW charging equates to 80 amps at 240 volts. Most home EVSEs support 50 amp circuits (40 amps nominal), which gives you 30 miles/hour of charge. A regular charge for our cars (85%) shows about 200 miles of range. So let's say you drive you car 150 miles in a day and plug in your car, you'll go from 50 miles of range back to 200 in 5 hours. If that's sufficient for your needs, then you don't need the 19.2 kW on board charger.

The NACS > CCS1 adapters will be useful only when TSCN V3 & V4 chargers are opened up to CCS1, probably on a rolling basis by company (and alas we're slated to go last, probably early 2025). The early purchases of these from A2Z and Lectron make zero sense. ("Be the first on your block to have something that can't be used yet!")
The NACS > J1772 adapters are useful for public Tesla L2 units ("Destination Chargers") and also home chargers with the NACS plug. Every CCS1 driver should keep one of these in your frunk, just in case.

New England installs commercial and municipal are very much driven by the price they get and how much the state pays out from our green fund.

I was just in AZ and was blown away by the availability of charging infrastructure. I am renting EV next time. I was in Sedona and could have had my pick of networks to use.

Now comes the scary part - my current home is limited at 10A, which means my max charging is 2.2kwh. I don’t know why one would need 19kwh charging. 11 will be just enough
How do you cook or run the sauna on 2.2kWh ... still hooked up on Ruzzian gas? :)

I love all of the comments where an individual doesn’t have a use case for the 19.2kW charging, therefore it’s ridiculous that anyone else would. Bravo. But for real, stop trying to dismiss it with overnight charging arguments. Charging overnight is almost never the issue or use case for when it’s needed.

Agreed. Hence my earlier question to OP about his driving and charging habits :)

From first page, OP has a potential unplanned 160 mile round trip. I don’t know what their other regular driving is, but if they have any significant driving on any given day and this unplanned trip comes up, charging as quickly as possible at home can make a difference.

I can relate because if my wife and I want to go out alone, it’s 120mi round trip to drop the kid off at her moms, drive into the city, and then reverse it. If we drive any significant amount during the day, then we don’t have enough to make the trip. We need to charge as quick as possible in the middle of the day while at home between trips. IDGAF how quick it charges over night.

I have other use cases too. All relate to charging during the day. All of them go away if the public charging infrastructure was sufficient.

I did the 22 KW Charger Upgrade on my 2020 4S mostly to get Plug and Charge capability. As mentioned it is helpful when you encounter a more potent Level 2 destination charger. As far as costs go the 22 KW charger kit is $2K. My dealer never did this update before and charged me $5400. To make the story more ugly the car was throwing electrical system fault afterwards which was traced to an improperly seated HV connector. Part of the kit are two new charge sockets which to install require the front doors to be removed. I was able to qualify for a tax credit towards the cost of the charger. As a non-business user the charger tax credit is capped at $1K however if it is part of a business you can get 30% tax credit.

My main reason for wanting it is to be able to charge to 90% or so from 5 or 10% in a few hours should I need to make an unexpected trip. My late mothers widower lives 80 miles from me and he likes to call with some problem that requires me to drive to him at the most inopportune times, like if I am sitting at 15% charge.
Hey, @ZenicaNC, still wondering what is bringing you down to the 10-15% charge prior to your unexpected trip. I think that's the biggest question to help determine if the AC charging upgrade is worth the cost to you.

It is usually bad timing. He has the uncanny sense to know when it's a very inconvenient time for me. It might be a weekend and we were out all day, maybe coming back from hiking or a day at the beach. I'm just forecasting this trend continues and I'll be caught with less miles than I need. I kid you not, he'll have the town mayor call me if I'm not there within a time he thinks is soon enough. He's old, crotchety and proving the axiom "only the good die young" but he's the last link I have to my mom. The man is 84 but remembers everything.

I digress.

I also wanted the 19.2kW for the rare occasion I might encounter a faster level 2 in public.

I don't want it badly enough to fork over $5k and then have the car throw codes.
