Today I received notice that the WSS4 Update was available for my 2021 4S. The full title was "WSS4 - High-voltage charger". Followed the OTA procedure and it installed without any issues.

I didn't recall reading about this OTA so I searched the Forum and honestly couldn't find anything. A bit surprising, but perhaps I just missed it. If I notice any changes I'll post those.

Attached below is a short summary from Perplexity regarding WSS4. I can't vouch for the accuracy, but it may be helpful.

If anyone has more specific information about WSS4 I'd appreciate it if you could point me at it.
-----------------------------

Based on the available information, the "WSS4 High-Voltage Charger" is a specific workshop software campaign targeting the onboard charger (OBC) control unit in the Taycan. While detailed WSS4-specific release notes are not publicly documented, the nature of this update can be understood from related Porsche technical bulletins and campaign patterns.

Purpose of WSS4
WSS4 is part of Porsche's ongoing software maintenance for the high-voltage charging system. These campaigns typically address:
  • Robustness improvements to prevent intermittent charging faults and nuisance error messages
  • Improved charging behavior stability, particularly for AC charging via the onboard charger
  • Better preconditioning availability to optimize battery preparation for both AC and DC charging
Common OBC Issues WSS4 May Address
Porsche has documented several OBC-related conditions in technical bulletins that software updates target:
  • Fault code P31D200 ("Charging socket – overtemperature") that can cause intermittent charging stops, particularly with Mobile Charger Connect or Mobile Charger Plus hardware
  • Temperature sensor logic refinements in the OBC that manages charging current based on connector and cable temperatures
  • Communication improvements between the OBC and other high-voltage components like the battery control unit (BMCe) and high-voltage converter

Thanks for your post.

I found nothing about WSS4 at NHTSA. I'm not sure that OTA updates unrelated to recalls are reported to NHTSA (or even dealers).

Like the last OTA regarding the charging system the only way to see what it does is to read the notes before you install it.

The AI generated text is probably purely guessing with no reference to anything official. I'll try to snap a picture of the install notes if I get the update.

I read the entire screen, but it only provided the OTA instructions except for this text --

A new online software update is ready for installation: High-voltage charger (WSS4)

Would love to learn more so send what you find. I'll also email my SA to see if she's heard of this.

Oh thats new - But i guess that should not surprise us :D

I'll look if I get the update.

They should really provide release notes in the app so people can check what have actually been installed.

UPDATE -- One thing I'm noticing after weeks of driving with Apple CarPlay post-WSS4 is that it does not complain about not being in sync with the Porsche battery level.

I suppose this could have been fixed by WSS4, but I'll continue to monitor and report if it happens again.

I was prompted to install this a couple of days ago but deferred it for a more convenient moment and until I could determine the purpose. When it prompts again I’ll report whether any more info than posted here appears.

Just spoke with my Porsche Centre, they mentioned that WSS4 was an outstanding update for my car, it was only with them a couple of weeks ago. I'll be careful to see the info screen if it does appear OTA.

My 2024 4S here also received the same update yesterday.

Sorely lacking in information on what this brings, as it feels like they don't owe us any explanation, just "this will take 3 minutes"

I highly recommend SKIPPING THIS UPDATE!!!
I took it and that's what Nerfed my charging from 10.5 KW to 8.5 - shitty outcome that fixed no issue that my car ever had!

You’re always welcome for a beer! Just don’t come with a low battery since you’ll have to sleep over to get enough charge to drive home 😜

I just got prompted for this today on the way home. For though who want the full text, see attached. Funny enough I have a 2020 4s, which has never had plug and charge... I wonder if I'll magically get it, but I am not getting my hopes up.

This sounds like a trap that prevents the OBC from accepting 11kW charge.
