Labor time is estimated at 12 hours of work.
As someone on their fourth (and I think final – as its been so reliable) 22 kW AC charger – that install time is interesting. As my local Porsche Centre in Dublin are fitting them in four to five hours.

So if you go for this, question the install time!

Attached is the workshop instructions for replacing the AC charger (US and EU markets).

It is saying 640 TU (Time units). It's my understanding that 100 TU's is 1 hour and 640 TU's is slightly less then 6.5 hrs officially. Open to correction here.

But if true – not sure where the 12 hours of that press release is coming from.

you can get a 20% improvement in charging speed by ditching the PMC+/PMCC and buying a $500 60 amp EVSE and upgrading your home circuit to 60 amps - no change required to the vehicle
How badly did you fight the urge to say 140% increase (from 20A PMCC default, to 48A) and include the brand name "Tesla" for the above EVSE? ;) "Tesla charger will charge your Taycan 2.4 times faster than Porsche PMCC at a less than a quarter the price of the PMCC (or half the price if you get in as a factory option instead of PMC+)".

How much it takes and how much they charge are different things. If you question it, they will just keep the car longer so you don't feel ripped off. I asked a Taycan tech about 4 wheel alignment, he said a couple of hours, but then came back few minutes later to tell me they charge for 6 hours.

WallBox, chargepoint, ClipperCreek all have 48 amp (60 amp breaker) EVSE's that will charge your Taycan @ ~11 kw - and not melt or overheat while doing it

frankly the wall box has my vote cause of the awesome stats features…but Tesla has the Powersharing…

in any case - there are sooooo many better options than Porsche's $1,500'ish wall charger and no $5000 vehicle upgrade required.

I LOVE the 19.2 kW charging option, but frankly the retrofit is simply too expensive - and most people will freak out when they get the electrician's quote/estimate for the 100 amp circuit required…

60 amps a great compromise - and reasonably affordable.

Could be replacement of wiring too, in order to support double the current in the USA (80A vs. 40A AC for both charge ports).

I get it. I speced the 80A charger but would not have paid $4K+ for it. If I had a 40A 2020 without P&C, maybe. As for the 100A circuit, it probably depends on how far from the distribution panel. I did mine myself for under $400 worth or parts for two chargers on 100A circuit (and ~$100 for government inspector to bless it IIRC), could have been under $300 as I over-engineered mine with a heavy duty safety disconnect and larger wires (inspector told me breakers count as safety disconnect if they can be locked out so I could have skipped it, and that I could have used smaller wires but that I would still do). Both my chargers are a straight shot from the distribution panel in the garage though, so easy wiring in PVC pipes on top of the walls (other than wiring out of the panel which was under the drywall), took about a day worth of work.

I agree however than 48A charging is a great compromise. I got the 80A onboard charger partially because I have an interest in EV charging and plan to play with up to 80A charging. Back in 2013 when I first started my EV journey, 80A came handy on a couple of trip routes. Today there are Tesla supercharger options on those routes so I would no longer need it. That said, I don't think EA has the Tesla supercharger reach yet, so I equipped my Taycan with 80A and got me an 80A TeslaTap in case those specific routes are missing CSS chargers or they are broken (as EA chargers sadly sometimes are) - I know where the Tesla 80A destination chargers are already. One such route is between Seattle, WA and Vancouver, BC (Canada).

I thought and read that the most you can get for home charging is 40kw?

I'm a sucker for charging speed, but in 30,000 miles across two Taycans I've never run out of charging time just plugging in overnight. I've always had my desired charge level by morning.

So while this upgrade might feel awesome to have, the actual utility it would have is not worth the cost, the upgraded home electricals or having the car torn down to install it.

For me, anyway.

I will note that we're already a 2-charger house (Tesla wall connector pulling 48 amps on a 60 amp circuit is the other.). If I'm ever in a real hurry I can always use that with my TeslaTap to get 20% faster charging.

The most you can charge a Taycan using AC power is 19.2KW, if you get the upgraded charger in the car and an 80A capable EVSE. Technically, you could spend a ton of money to install a DC charger at your home to give you as much as 250KW, but that would be one hell of an upgrade to a residential property, probably not even possible for most residential properties - we're probably talking about a cost of more than the Taycan. I only heard of very, very wealthy people installing DC chargers on their properties (think farms, ranches). There is also talk about some 20KW residential DC chargers for the Ford Lightening, but that would get you only 0.8KW more than the 80A AC charger.

I have a wallbox unit that has home power sharing enabled too. It has a central electrical board unit that actually monitors total draw across all units in the building and then limits power; i.e. it has a hypervisor looking at actual consumption versus Tesla setup which works on declared power setting and reported consumption for each of the units. slightly different approach.

Here in Switzerland, the electrical utility company would only allow for the wallbox type setup with actual hypervisor. This may vary from one company to the other but that's what I had

When I bought my car it had this in the Frunk. I punched a hole from my laundry room and piggy backed off of my Dryer and did it with a 10 guage wire.
It's worked great so far.
The Porsche store wants me to bring it in to them to adjust my Power Out in half. I said I'm Good.
Lol

This is the max it will go.

Just be aware that at some point the cable will build up enough resistance that the car won't charge overnight for heat reasons.

For me this happened after around a year of use.
