Hey guys, I’m here to pick your brain.

After my windshield got replaced, I needed to bring the car to the dealership in order for the cameras to be recalibrated and an alignment needed to be done on the car

I got my car end of November last year, as of today the car has 4657 miles, today I got a message from my service advisor telling me the car is finished. The recall was performed and whatever they needed to do was all done and I can go pick up my car. BUT, she mentioned that I needed two new rear tires.

One have to nails on it which I had no idea and the big REASON is because the thread it’s too low. How is that possible with so little miles is it because the car came poorly Alined from the factory and I have air suspension therefore I ate my tires or is it because the tires that come with the car are not good for the Miami weather.

I have no idea what to do whether to keep using it and change them further down the road or what so please comment me what would you do in this situation

They say tread is low but not extremely low, and the tire with 2 nails cant be patched.

Missing a lot of details. What make and model tire? Why was an alignment needed at 4,700 miles? The alignment being off (curb shot? pothole?) would eat tires very quickly. Get the alignment printout and look at the before and after readings. Two nails but no low pressure warning on the dash? The "nails" might be thumb tacks and did not actually puncture the tire. Assuming the punctures are not on or near the sidewalls any tire shop should be able to plug the holes. That kind of repair was considered an emergency repair back in NJ so dealerships would refuse on "safety concerns". Probably the same in Florida. And with Porsche I'm sure a tire with a puncture "must be replaced", and that's not completely wrong since a number of their cars see track time. If your tires have noise reducing foam inside a patch (the correct kind of repair) is not possible. Low pressure light was on and you drove that way, filled the tire back up and repeated the cycle? Accelerated wear would happen.

Tyres should be good for 12K - 18K miles with normal driving. Specifically, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S.

The alignment system that Porsche use can be problematic and provide false readings leading to an expensive bill. Ask your dealer to review the alignment check again. I had an alignment issue following a 2 year service (18K miles) on my T4S which would have cost £1600 (!!!!) - I challenged it and alignment was rechecked and sure enough they had got it totally wrong and no alignment was necessary. I sold the car with the same tyres from new with 19K miles.

I began the post saying the reason WHY i took the car to the dealer and WHY an alignment was needed.

“After my windshield got replaced, I needed to bring the car to the dealership in order for the cameras to be recalibrated and an alignment needed to be done on the car”

In regards to losing pressure, yes. Recently on 1 tire i had to add air, minimal loss tho. Dash showed warning.

Dealer sent me a whole inspection video showing rear right 2 nails ( 1 leak 1 dont ) rear left active leak.

I have RS 21” wheels/tires OEM.

305/30/21 rear tires. Model i don't remember

They say tread is low but not extremely low but they wont repair there.

I decided to skip the replacement and will take it to my local tire shop to patch the tires.

I dont track the car, havent tracked it. My drive is very short therefore very little miles in 8 months with the car.

I could not skip the alignment as it was needed after the recalibration of the cameras post windshield replacement

No clue if my tires can be patched or not, will figure that out after i picK up the car.

What was the reason for the windscreen replacement? Just curious because mine 4-week old car is going in next Monday for a new windscreen where there's a line across the middle that distorts the view. Didn't know it it was more common than I realised.

Heavy car, electric motor torque, Porsche 'performance' OE alignment spec all attribute to tires not lasting as long as other ICE vehicles.

I didn't suggest you could or should.

Point was simply that alignment can throw up false positives. It's the same system used for all calibrations - from chassis through camera alignment for windscreens.

My 2020 4S with 19" Goodyear all season tires needs front tires every 12K miles. Rears ever 24K miles. I get my alignments from a trust local tire shop, $150 for 4 wheel alignment. I've had disappointing luck with dealer alignment in the past not to mention the cost difference.

You should take the time to go look at your tires and see what you have.

For example, Pirelli P-Zeros would not surprise me at all to wear at that mileage.

I had Continentals on my RWD that wore through to cord failure at around 10K miles.

I will pick up the car from the dealership end of today I will pick up the car from the dealership end of today and I can report the brand of my tires. I don’t really remember if I am not mistaken they are Pirelli but cannot be 100% sure that’s what I have.

If they are, my experience with them is superior grip, terrible treadwear, and a strong tendency to pick up nails/bolts for flats.

Also tire emissions, I read somewhere those are big contributors to pollution caused by EVs.
(yes, /s)

OP - still not clear what a windshield replacement or instrument calibration has to do with alignment; did they disconnect the suspension elements to free up a sensor cable?
