So after soon two years of being a happy Taycan owner, I've realised that I have never deliberately used Sport mode even once. That made me think, what is actually the purpose of that mode and who actually uses it?
  • Range mode is self-explanatory.
  • Normal mode is great for everyday driving for smoother acceleration and more efficient driving when you don't care about acceleration.
  • Sport Plus is for fun driving.
  • Sport ís for what? When you kinda want some performance, but not too much?
Sport is such a weird middle setting with no apparent distinct purpose. What am I missing here?

Every time I get in the car. Sport Mode is my default off-highway driving mode. On highways I switch to Individual, which is essentially SportPlus without the sport noise.

My CT does not have Sport Plus as a selectable mode, so yeah I use sport mode a lot.

First gear.

Sport plus is way too stiff for most street driving. Normal starts in second gear. Sport is perfect. I’m in sport mode 75% of the time.

Hmmm not on the base though. Mine shifts up at 85km/h and down at 55km/h in normal / individual (based on normal)

I agree that sport plus is way too stiff for my roads. Feels like a goat.

I do have to switch into sport if I want to do a LC.

I mainly drive in sport mode to eliminate the studder from normal mode when you punch it. Suspension is always in sport. Otherwise I don't notice much difference.

If you have all of the performance options, then putting it in Sports Plus makes a huge difference when driving the car hard (particularly in the bends). I dont use Sports Plus but I like the fact that it exists. I rarely use Sports mode but it is my “go to” when I want to play boy racer.

I'm nervous about using Sport Plus after reading the accounts of how the lowest suspension setting can cause rapid tire wear on (IIRC) the rear inner treads.
(Or is that not a concern for a CT?)

So I have my Individual setting for essentially Sport Plus but in the second-lowest setting (i.e., Lowered, not Low), which corresponds to Sport.

My understanding of this chart:
... is that Sport Plus (as opposed to Sport) in my Individual setting also modifies the behavior of my PTV+ (not that I'm exactly sure what it is!) and RAS (at speed, which is impossible to detect, although it sure seems to make a noticeable difference for low-speed driving).

I always start off each drive though in Normal, then switch into Individual on highways.

Overall though, I'm happily impressed by how the Normal, Sport, and Sport Plus suspension settings all achieve wonderfully enjoyable balances between handling vs comfort.
(By contrast, the other day I was a rear seat passenger in an Uber Tesla Model 3, ouch!)

I am Individual all the time. I find better balance with chassis in normal setting, suspension lowered. It’s the closest to classic coilovers feel…

I do the same. Individual mode , engine in sport mode to have it at first gear. I don’t like the shift when accelerating fast at lower speeds. And it is a bit more responsive. Lowest suspension, which is still 2 cm higher in the CT compared to the sedan. I prefer this for corners. And normal chassis because it is more comfortable. Regen off because I prefer to drive like that.

I use it infrequently. For me Porsche chassis specialists got it spot on with “normal” for normal use.
Sport plus is great on a circuit, needlessly stiff on the poor roads around here.

I use it if sitting behind a car I am waiting for a chance to overtake so I don’t need “kickdown” the rest of the time having the rear motor in second gear is plenty fast enough so I tend to agree with the OP, sport is almost completely redundant but nice to have for the above situation.

I use sport mode for quick drives around town when I don't want to lower the car because of road quality and speed bumps

I use Sport more than SP actually.
But not using both a lot. They're both pretty extreme.
