Hi there,

I am movimg abroad and I won’t be able to take with me my current Wallbox.

In my new house I will need to set up a charging point in the parking spot (not a closed garage unfortunately).
So the idea is to get electricity from garden lights line, and use my porsche mobile charger connect + a dock (this is supposed to be weather-proof) as a standing wallbox.

Any suggestions/reccomendations/words of winsdom?

Since there isn t any wall, I will also need a stand for the dock, do you know any compatible ones to attach the dock properly?

Thank you all!

Sounds like you may need a custom solution. If there's a way to cement or plant a wooden post, it may be the cheapest manner.

There are pedestals out there. https://a.co/d/7bezxab

Based on the photos of all the pedestals for sale it looks like there's a way to bolt a plate into cement? Not certain how it will work. A home renovation contractor will probably be able to provide info.

There is a charger pedestal sold by Porsche, it may be best to have it with the Porsche cabinet (aka the Charging Dock, a glorified cable reel and cabinet). I'm not recommending this due to the cost, and that it's made with glass. Looks amazing if installed at a high-end luxury home, and if I were in a position to do it I would.

There's also a compact version that looks slick
971044030 , though it may look like a european-only part so you'll have to search for one from Europe or ask your dealer. This one does not require the cabinet.

Also if you end up going to customized pedestal route, you may want a plastic mounting bracket for the mobile charger connect.

Just note that this part is a Volkswagen part, you do not have to buy the Porsche version. They had offered for many years for plug-in hybrid vehicles across VW and Audi. Search eBay and local Facebook marketplace. I found a Volkswagen part myself on eBay at 10% of the MSRP.

OEM Wall Bracket holder case for VW, Porsche or Audi p/n: 8V4915899

When searching, I also noticed there were many plastic third party versions sold on eBay and Etsy.

Great advices, thank u so much!
Yep I saw the Porsche OEM stand… like you said, it s great looking but unreasonably expensive.

how about using the mobile charger connect as a daily wallbox? It seems to me that it has been designed to be exactly this and not just an occasional and mobile tool.

My neighbour doesn't use a dock for his PMCC and is totally exposed - ladted 3 years so far! IP54 rated.

I have my PMCC in the dock in my garage.

Technically you don't need the dock for weather proofing but useful for cable management.

The original PMCC pedestal was expensive and would still need secured to the ground.

It may be cheaper to source another EVSE if you can't find a suitable solution your PMCC.

PMC+ is similar and both can be mounted with the basic wall setup. PMC+ is only 9.6kw compared to 22kW.

Yeah, that was my point that you'll probably still need the plastic bracket (see above) which is designed to screw into a wall.

You're certain you cannot mount onto the exterior side of the building?

yep, unfortunately is an open space detached to the house with the garden in between…

I ll figure it out, anyway I know @W1NGE that PMCC is supposed to resist outdoor, it s nice to hear about your neighbour with a real life test, thanks a lot ;)

The Mobile Charger is actually designed by Porsche's in-house design studio Porsche Design. IMO the form factor, along with the cabinet and pedestal is a 12 out of 10. It's very aesthetically pleasing. It's also designed to be both a mobile and mounted charger. If you use the bracket or the cabinet, it allows for the unit to snap in and out. There's not many EVSE units I'm aware of that has that type of form factor design.

Other than that, search this forum and you'll see that the unit itself has numerous technical issues. On a 240 volt you also need a very specific commercial grade receptacle. I ended up going through the trouble of getting mine set up (I already have a chargepoint Flex), and it was a major letdown for me and the reason for my disuse of my unit was the user interface lacked a lot of the charging details that chargepoint provides in their interface.

My unit is still on the wall, unplugged, and I plan to use it as a backup but likely will not. I have a separate 16 amp 120v travel charger that I use for trips.

OP is Euro-not north america - euro units have far fewer (none?) issues - i wouldn’t use a north american PMCC as discussed in this tread - but can not comment on the Euro units in this proposed application.

you all!
Keep in mind that garden lights line are at best 2,5mm^2, and usually 1,5mm^2. 2,5 would limit you to 20A, which is not great (up to 3kW).

I use PMCC as a mobile and wallbox solution. It's not perfect but it is one of best I ever had. It support 3p/1p switching and eebus which allows integration with any HEMS (not just Porsche).

Good point. I will definitely need to involve someone from the electricity company to make sure I can get at least 7KW. In my old house I had a 6kw system with solar panels, and I charged around 5kwh, it wasn t bad and I think it s the minimum acceptable charging power if you use the car as a daily putting a few miles on it.

To be clear 99% of the issues / noise on PMCC has been from USA / Canada. EU (220 - 240v) - little or no grumbles, UK (240v) no grumbles.

I'm unaware of _ANY_ issues with PMC+/PMCC outside of North America - other than it's cost/bulk - but reliability is excellent. North America however is a very different story.

On the mounting option - I'm in a situation right now where I didn't want to permanently mount my EVSE (not the PMCC, but anyway) to the house. So, I ended up getting a fence post from the hardware store (aka, Lowe's) for about $16. Set that in the ground, and mounted the EVSE to that. More decorative than just a plain 4x4, but not much more expensive, either :)

Not sure how permanent/decorative you're looking for, but just throwing out an option.

Yeah that's what I was suggesting. Simply planting (or cementing) a wooden post into the ground and bolt the unit into it. You'll still need a mounting bracket though. Care to share a pic.ofnyoyr setup
