Part 3: The Quest for the Perfect Tune

Yes, I am just back from doing that.

The test was done with 85% SoC. Same road, same direction. Slope a tiny bit different because with stock it takes 60 meters more to reach the 200km/h.
Tests done in Sport Plus in both cases, flooring the car at 70kph.

With 100% SoC it can run 6.8x (I got that before, but I wanted to show the difference in exactly the same conditions back to back). Or if I go a bit downhill... but that's cheating.
Keep in mind, my car is by far the heaviest one - it is a Turbo S CT with absolutely every option ticked, even the rear seat entertainment. This also shows in the stock time though.

Yes, because the Turbo S is not artificially detuned in launch mode.
That said, a lot of the fun stuff on the Turbo S happens below 100km/h with the tune, because you get the extra torque and you get it instantly.

I am not surprised, because one E-tron GT (not RS) that I tuned did a 6.6s. And that makes 730 PS.

I think the first part of the "trick" is that the CT is very heavy.
My car empty weight is 2493 kg according to the papers.
But an e-tron GT RS I checked was 2370 kg.

The second part is that the CT is significantly less aerodynamic than the Sedan. Especially the variant with the Offroad Package like mine is.

And the final part is to go as much downhill as Dragy will let you. So slope closer to -1%. Especially if you pick a road where at start it's significantly downhill, and then at the end it's uphill (because at high speed the aerodynamic drag is more important), and then average is 1%.

After tuning I think the e-trons are the fastest because they are also the lightest. And when using every trick I can believe 5.9s 100-200.

But this is not because the Taycan makes less power or something
That's why I showed also before and after time on the same exact spot at the same exact day.

The hardware is the same, but the exact acceleration depends on the weight of the car. There will be a real difference between full options Taycan Turbo and minimum options RS e-tron GT

The more correct question is: Do they make the same exact power and torque?
And the answer is: yes!

Same here. Full options CT TS. But...i find it slow 100 to 200...even after tuning I am afraid. But that is because I came from a heavily tuned RS5 with hybrid turbo's...700hp on 1730kg something like that....so maybe I need a different car.
Having said that on the short runs the Taycan TS is quick.
So still not sure what to expect post tune, especially those short stinches.
Very interested in a this, but need some good data and /or user experiences of turbo s drivers post tune.

For sure there are faster cars out there (not many though, stock almost none).
But that's what I mean: a full optioned Taycan is definitely the more luxurious car in terms of overall package than the RS 5.
And just power is not all I want.

Agreed. No comparison in any way, just to share that I do like power/torque, but the driving experience overall is just better in the Taycan. The Taycan did better on the ring than the RS5 as well, 2 very different cars. Just miss the power between say 80-200kmu.

Don't get me wrong....the Taycan TS is a fast car, I am just missing that extra thrill. Perhaps it sounds weird, but the power / torque is something you get used to quickly.
Hence, I hope a tune would give that extra thrill.

It should improve things due to 2 angles:
1-22 Inch set up must have a bigger total tire circumference than factory set up for Taycan, given the side walls with 21 inch already seem to be at the limit. Don't know what tire specs you have but you can calculate the total difference in circumference vs stock and if it is, say 3%, going back to stock circumference (does not matter 20 or 21 inch, given both would have same circumference) should give you 3% more wheel torque and proportionate acceleration benefits (while your real top speed will come down by the same proportion)
2-20 inch set up typically comes in with narrower tires which should improve aero and friction by about high single digit %s. This will make a difference at high speed. So all in all you should have a material benefit.
