Just to make it clear. It is not only about the sound but the shifting feel. It will simulate the shifts by an 'interrupted" pull on upshifts and engine brake under downshift, mimicking how the PDK works. Testers as Andreas Preuninger (head of GT development) said it is almost impossible to make a diff between real PDK and future "fake shift Taycan". The final stages of the developments were made by the team who tuned the PDK system as well to make the feel as close as possible.
This will need serious software mods, not only the sound and paddles on the steering wheel.
Which is the biggest reason why this is so feckin insane!!

Why was PDK invented? Yup, to absolutely minimise the interruption when changing gears, to improve performance.

They now have a drivetrain that reduces it to zero....(certainly if they went with a single gear...but minimises it regardless) and so what do they waste effort on? Implementing something that makes performance worse!

The marketing people need shooting.

The quote prj pulled out about horse shit hits the nail on the head. Porsche are pandering to people who still want to push toy cars around going brrrrrr, brrrrrr, brrrr...

I disagree with the notion that these updates means Porsche is still serious about the Taycan. To me, it says the opposite.

Well, I am one of those retarded who still brrrrrr, brrrrrrr. On a kind of way. Continuously searching in myself a child that I was.
You'd be surprised how many of us there are. ;)

Life is fun, not only row performance. Let them play.

Waiting for them to add "Tunnel Mode" with speaker system like the Charger EV, why compy 1 feature if you can copy 2 at the same time 😎

doughnut mode anyone ?
Or 2 or 4 wheel blowout tire mode while in launch mode ?

Let‘s get creative in the meantime while I am waiting for a usable satnav system that doesn’t crash and allows to preheat the battery in winter.

Don't compare the script kiddies doing the PCM app to the firmware engineers!
As a firmware developer I had to laugh a bit here :D

But honestly it feels like the user facing software in the Taycan is letting the platform down. There is so much cool engineering in the drivetrain and the J1.2 included a lot. But in daily use the software you interact with still sucks which is a shame.

But I agree with others that it's at least something that they haven't just abandoned the Taycan entirely. But who knows if/when we will get a proper new model.

I'm surprised they are not fitting the EV with skinny tires - improve range and "engagement". I recently spent a week in a some ICE rental (it was a Chevy something, I don't recall exactly), which came with skinny tires, I was able to easily drift it on highway ramps when it rained (despite traction control being on). That thing would start skidding through turns at 25mph! I had some fun with it (and once unintentionally scared some coworkers riding along), so I guess it was more "engaging", but I would not buy a Taycan if it handled like that. Yes, I can drift the Taycan on some ramps, but it takes rain, at least partially disabled traction control, ramp going up-hill, and usually faster than 25mph.

Go-Karts are also very engaging, 40mph feels very fast.

PS> I think the sound is meant for status symbol seekers, you know, the people for whom advertising like "when you start your car, the whole neighbourhood knows you're going for a drive" works. I on the other hand. really enjoy the awesome but silent power of an EV.

Shame on AAPL for not pulling off same, if Steve hadn't thought he knew more than the medical profession it would have happened.
Wouldn't buy this car anyways, would be like buying a VW during WW2.
Hopefully Porsche has been examining this car in its lab for awhile now, looks like BMW may have with its excellent iX3.

I will not be satisfied until I have to crank-start my Taycan and see it give a little puff of steam out of a porthole on the front hood.

I personally think it is very gimmicky and part of the reason I changed over both our cars to electric was the drivetrain 'feel', but I am totally fine with whatever gimmicks need to be implemented to get people out of gar/petrol cars and into electric ones.

I was reading a few threads yesterday (many of the replies were years old, many were newer) with responses stating how they miss the sounds/feel of gas engines after buying a Taycan. I almost made a thread to discuss it, but I didn't. So I'll say a tiny part of what I've been thinking here.

I've likely missed a lot, but yours is the first post I've heard someone explicitly mention that they enjoy the Taycan because it is silent, and that resonates so strongly with me. I've never been a car guy in my entire life, I hate hearing obnoxiously loud cars, and I hate the idea of drawing attention to myself due to obnoxious engine noises. I love EV performance and stealth - I feel badass knowing I'm flying under the radar and more of a "blink and you'll miss me flying by" person on the road. As far as Porsche is concerned, I do love their badge prestige, body styles (Taycan being my favorite body style), and handling/performance.

One of my friends is a big car enthusiast, and I used to tell him I wish we had cars that would lean into turns and he'd roll his eyes at me. Now I'm driving one (PAR). I never thought I'd spend more than $40K on a car, but this thing is literally my dream car I never expected to exist.

I'm very much not Porsche's traditional enthusiast base, and I wonder how many others who bought Taycan have a background/story like me. It feels like most comments I read here are people who are traditional Porsche fans who regret or begrudgingly accept that they miss an ICE experience.

I am also not a regular 911 guy, but have an Oldtimer 914-6. When starting my EV adventure with the taycan I started appreceating the relative silence while driving. I could rave about it and my family would immediatly join doing so. We simply love it.

Even when joking about „silly“ Features like this I understand why they are necessary and Let’s be honest, we are still childs just with more expensive toys. So I get that and find it cool if there are people that enjoy it. What it makes a bit odd is this hunting for new features while the old problems are not being ironed out (fast enough). That is what sometimes provokes a harsh reaction from me.
