Hello

I picked up my Taycan on 20th December 2021, it's been back with Porsche Edinburgh since 6th January 2022 for a variety of faults and error messages.

Since picking it up the maximum range has been 171 miles, I was expecting better.

What does everyone else get?

Porsche say it is normal and will extend, I keep insisting they run what tests they can while they have the car and the latest response is - "I have our technician looking into the battery health at present, he can check to make sure there are no dead cells etc."

Any help would be appreciated while I have Porsche's attention fixing the other faults.

Thank you

We picked up our cars a day or so apart :)

It really will get better I suspect - not dissimilar experience but mine started out at 200 miles at 100% SoC - now at 250 miles plus with only 800 miles on clock - and mine dominated by relatively short driving distances to date (majority far less than 100 miles).

Turn off the Precool/heat and any other battery sucking sources :) and see what diff. that might make to the predicted range. You did not mention how many miles you have on the car but again suspect not too much correct?

How many miles are you having right now, @Trussy ?
New car needs about 250-300 miles until recuperation starts.
Also, you should use recuperation (Automatic) for better range.

Helps if you let us know what battery you have.

Have a CT4, so the PB+ battery - 85% sits at 204 miles.

When we picked up last month, it was around 175 @ 85% and slowly increased as we put miles on the car. Have around 1200 miles now.

Thanks for the replies @B61 and @ciaranob.

I should have elaborated, it is an ex demo from Porsche GB supplied by Porsche Edinburgh, 21 reg with 1293 miles on the clock. I've done 200 of those in 2 and a half weeks.

350kW 93kWh RWD
Performance Battery Plus
On Board DC Charger 150kW

Heater, 360 camera, full beams, other safety features and Porsche connect app all been malfunctioning.

Fear I've been sold a pup and the battery is faulty too.

Do you have the Performance Battery Plus (my guess is not)? If not then you aren't far off the range to expect at this time of year.

Base Taycan - Standard Battery - 10C ambient temperature, 19" wheels - 194 - 196 miles
Base Taycan - Performance Battery Plus - 10C ambient temperature, 19" wheels - 219 - 220 miles

In my case, PB+, 10C - 85% charge - 185 - 187 miles, 100% charge - 220 miles. In summer this could get up to 240 regularly and potentially 270 (needs to be mid to high 20's C for this to happen.

Go here and set the calculator to your spec and see what you might expect - https://www.porsche.com/uk/models/taycan/taycan-models/ - scroll down the page some way until you get to this part:

Yep - that's not good or correct for 99% charge - they should be able to test the battery to determine if there is something awry with it.

Hard to know then the driving history and of course if a '21 model with many sw/hw issues, how many of those 1200+ miles were driven with 'everything' on etc which in turn may have effected the current range calculations to date - my gut says the battery may be fine though and that future driving history (assuming all else fixed) could rectify but this of course pure speculation at this point.

Understood.
That's not good, for sure.
As @W1NGE suggested: ask from the dealer, to make a battery test.

Sounds like you indeed have an unusually low range for this car.

The guess o meter number doesn't matter. Mine sometimes says 170 or 180 at a full charge, but I still get my normal range.

Have you looked at your kWh/100 mi number for trips with continuous driving for more than 20 miles?

If you have any efficiency numbers for a trip of more than 20 miles, ideally at a mostly consistent speed, no significant elevation changes, and the outside temperature we can determine what your range actually is. A photo of the trip computer would be excellent.

But there's nothing unusual about the guess o meter saying 171 miles. As a matter of fact, it might not be surprising given it's a demo car. All the driving has probably been short little bursts, which if you're driving only 10-15 miles every day 171 is a realistic number (ie.. you're booting up all the systems and not giving time for efficiency to catch up.) That doesn't mean your actual highway range is 171.

Ignore the range estimate; it's been polluted by nearly 1300 miles of other people driving a car they don't own.

Instead, calculate your range by driving a known distance, and then dividing that distance by the points lost from your battery charge. For example, if you drive exactly 50 miles, and you drop from 99% to 78% (a drop of 21 points), your "actual" range is: 50 / 0.21 = 238 miles.

If your calculated range is over 200 miles, your car/battery is fine and it's just your guess-o-meter that's wrong.

If your calculated range agrees with your guess-o-meter, something is wrong. It might be a problem with the way you're using the car, e.g. not pre-conditioning while on mains. But whether it's you or the car, something's not right.

Mine is a similar spec to yours :
21 RWD
Performance Battery Plus
150kw DC charher
4k miles.

Its pretty cold here today (4c) and I only drove a couple of miles this morning.
This is what it currently shows.

@Trussy you live ina fairly chilly part of the country and perhaps you did not drive the car for longer distances?. Nor pre heating the batttery? It makes a huge difference if your battery is heated to say 20 degrees when you start your journey. And if you drive an hour or more than you will see the temperature for the battery raised even more.

The second thing is you have an ex demo. I bet you everyone that tried the car was using Launch Control to see what it could do. I have a feeling it takes quite some time to get things back to normal on the GOM.

I'm kinda in the same boat. I'm getting 180 miles of range @ 80% charge state on my 2022. So far I've not been seeing anyone with a 2022 getting the kind of range of 280+ miles that people are reporting on the 2021. I do have the PB+ but also Mission E wheels. Pretty disappointed right now with the range overall, even though I don't really need it. The only thing I can think of is I've been doing a lot of 80 MPH driving on the freeway. BTW, I live in south FL so I'm not dealing with low temps at all.
