Does anyone have any information about a 2027 Taycan model…beyond the rumors about a virtual transmission and Manthey kit?

There are no news and the fact that the configurator still only has 2026 models reminiscent of the 2024 model year that was very short before 2025 J1.2 was rolled out. This means to me that 2027 will be just a placeholder with a few things you mentioned and then 2028 model will be something different.

I see the following outcomes: 1) J1.3 refresh type release with limited production 2) J2.1 on shared with Panamera platform which most likely completely erase the look and the original soul (same path as Macan ICE that went mostly Audi and for 2028 will be basically an Audi and a hybrid) 3) End of life due to intense competition.

Thoughtful options you presented Sergey. Of course I have zero knowledge but am especially intrigued by two of your options. First, that of a J1.3 short term refresh with limited production — especially IF they introduce a 2027 Taycan with a virtual PDK sound/gear torque trannny. This would be consistent with a couple of background things we believe we have learned from various Porsche officials, including way to at least reduce the EV depreciation bleeding by making fewer of them than even current, depressed market demand level. We have noticed this already with 2026 Taycan production being reduced already, perhaps as if they are deliberately making one less than the market would purchase. There is one YT video out saying that Taycan depreciation is at least slowing down, I.e., suggested a correlation between lesser price hemorraging due to lower late 2026 Taycan production. As in the above post suggested, perhaps for 2027 they only make them for confirmed, placed customer orders?

If the plan is to merge the Panamera and the Taycan, that would be a complex, lengthy process. It could well take one more year beyond their original four year traditional model generation and refresh cycles, so maybe also as suggested they bring out an interim J1.3 until the merged J2.1 Panamera/Taycan were to first come out as a delayed 2029 or even a 2030 model. If so that delay of Porsche’s 4 year usual cycles would not be the first during the last few years, e..g, the delays in the Carmen/Boxster EV and the large “K1” three-row SUV.

Going to be interesting to see how this unfolds, though as a couple of posts on other threads have suggested, we are unlikely to get any Porsche released 2027 Taycan info at least until this July (though that could be literally just six weeks from now). So much is yet unknown in the interim.

2027 only brings the virtual transmission, and maybe not even that. There has been 0 sightings of taycans with that system - only the 718/cayman EV prototye/mules have been testing that system.

And you could argue they will copy paste it, case in which it's coming out in MY27 - but i suspect that until MY28, the cayman/718 EV will be the first and only porsche to have this virtual transmision.

Beside that, there's rumors of a new software for the PCM, supposed to roll out across all taycan years, to make it easier to maintain the platform in the coming years - i'd call bullshit on that. Higher chance that a MY27 simply gets the new android based pcm that's avaliable on Macan and Cayenne EVs.

A "new" taycan is quite a bit far away, and will not be on the j1 platform or a porsche platform, it will be on a VW/audi platform shared with other 4 door sedans like panamera or other audis

PCM major OS update (i.e. Macan EV Android) is not happening if J1.3 is a refresh that is basically the same, because you need new PCM hardware that takes a fortune to recertify and the new software to recertify. They cannot even certify Matrix beam for the US with hardware already existing and then corporate killed Macan ICE because of a major hardware/software investment needed to comply with EU cyber standards. Anything that costs money will not be done and most likely the packaging will be reduced, price will be higher, and some gimmicky features will be in to make it interesting.

I’m not familiar with Porsche’s lifecycles but why wouldn’t there be another year of a J1.2? It’s only two years old.

Also 718 Boxster/Cayman killed because they wouldn't comply with EU cyber standards. Seems like that's something that could be done in 6 months at some companies like Tesla or pick your Chinese maker.

Porsche life cycles are as follows typically

4 years for the .1 version
4 years for the .2 version
new generation after the .2

so far Taycan has followed that model

2020-2024 first generation - some minor updates in 2023
2025-2028? .2 Taycan - some minor updates in 2027

2029 will be the "first" new Taycan that offers signficant' deviation from the previous generations - it will be amounced sometime in 2028 - with first deliveries in fall of 2028 for the MY'2029 version of the Taycan

it will be "pre-announced" with platium, gold, special editions with nice mix of options at a favorable price as they boost the outgoing model's sales with special editions that offer a mix of options/branding you can't quite build in the configurator…

this only true _IF_ Porsche decides to continue the Taycan experiment - they may lose interest - there are rumor, but no decisions yet…

I see no reason for this to change and the 8 year cycle is well established in:
  • engineering
  • manufacturing
  • supply chain mgmt
  • amortization of capital expeditures
  • dealer training
  • market/pricing segmentation
  • and typical lifecydle durations of these types of products
  • a lot of corp history that would reist changing this cycle…
it would be a surprising deviation for Porsche to deviate from this well established corp cycle…major surprise

virtual transmission is 100% a software gimik and therefore could be introduced for the 2027 MY - but let's not mistake that for an actual production/mechanical change…

I welcome being wrong, but will be unsurprised if I'm right.

I'm banking on 2029 for something new, sticking another 3 year extended warranty on, 3 years tyre/alloy cover, 3 years Porsche assistance. That said, that would mean 6 years total with this car which has been a huge PITA and I've never kept even cars I love for that long.

Not 100% true. There are extra and bigger audio speakers on the inside and outside, dedicated to replicating engine noises.

Spy shots of the interior of the cayman shows them messing with the seats, so likely there will be vibration motors in the seats also - similar to the new Mercedes that gets unveiled in 2 days.

They won't release 718 EV and new/refreshed Taycan in the same year; they are overlaping . I suspect we will see 718 this year and new refreshed/special Taycan next year with new interior, not just the PCM. And the real new Taycan I suspect in 2029/30 or so, merged with Panamera, 1000V, SPP based.

My Dealer said that there will be no new Taycan or merge of Taycan with Panamera, he was on some conference call where they said no new/updated electric 4 door car.

I wish it was but that what he told me.

Well, bye bye Porsche. The Taycan is a great car (with it's flaws). And since Porsche have no other options if you hate SUV's, killing the Taycan would mean that I surely would buy something else.

A shame if true but absolutely no surprise.

I think he means for 2026/2027. I think the 718 EV will come out as a 2027 model, the Taycan will get another year or two of J1.2, then in 2029 it’ll be a new model.
