Did not want to hiajck today major important thread on what is 2027 Taycan new, but curious as to those who had chosen this option for a 911 or some other model whether you were happy with the quality of whatyou received.. Worth $2,750?

I am buying it from a very long distance dealer and having it direct Porsche-delivered to the Porsche Experience Center Los Angeles, so please any experiences, comments to share? Will be driving it over 1,000 miles from PECLA home, and while of course TracWrap could be the trip protection, would cost me a bunch more than $2,750 where I live. Your thoughts… TU

I' believe this would be installed at the port in San Diego. I would want the paint corrected before installing any PPF

I also didn't drive my car until it was fully PPFed, including the windshield. A 1000 mile trip is really risky for the windshield

It would be nice to get it fully done in Socal before heading up north

Thank you. All very good points. What started my post was a knowledgeable person questioning the port’s quality control for its PPF workmanship. Therefore the option you suggested, though it would take two LA airplane trips, would be our friend’s LA area detailer who has done excellent work for her three top C8’s (most lately her ZR1) is a smart one.

The dealer (Scottsdale, AZ) I got my car from offered and even recommended their PPF service. They used pre cut PPF and you can see the seams with that method (the seams gather dirt over time and they become really obvious on light colored cars especially). The gold standard is cutting to fit and tucking the edges which all good shops will do. Not sure which this service is, but I'd be asking questions.

I agree on the paint correction first... that is the most important step. Lots of shops will pick the car up for you if local (or you can have it shipped via covered carrier)... I'd probably find the best two or three shops in S.D. (or where ever it's landing) and see what they would do.

The one J1.1 Porsche PPF install i saw was what you're describing. Pre cut but not exactly to the edges, not even fully aligned.

It would be nice if an installer could prep and PPF the the car at PECLA so its just waiting in the staging room for him

When it comes to PPF, it's really the installer's skill and experience that matters most, if one uses high quality film (e.g., XPEL Ultimate+ or alike).

Also consider having it ceramic coated over PPF (and the pain if not the whole vehicle PPF). Makes a huge difference keeping the vehicle clean. I've found that professional ceramic coating is significantly better than the DYI.

Front PPF is an option in the Porsche configurator (even in UK/Europe) - which suggests to me it's installed at the factory - ?

In the US at least, these are generally installed at the port of entry.
OPs car will arrive at the VW Port in San Diego California, but the PECLA delivery center is in Carson, over 100 miles away.

Porsche paint can have flaws from the factory floor so even if installed at the factory, the paint is still not fully corrected for PPF install. If it's at the port, there is less reliability on who and how it will be installed.

The good news is he's getting Purple Sky Metallic which was 9mil thick on mine, so lots of room for correction

Pro tip: A paint correction is not needed before PPF. The PPF will hide the kinds of minor defects that you might see from the factory. The biggest reason to tick this box is to have the total cost spread over a loan/lease....if that is of value to you.

It will look a bunch better if you do (PPF is going to drag it down regardless but it will help).

Indistinguishable difference on a car that is new from factory….

I say this as a person that obsesses over these things, is deep down the rabbit hole on detailing and has done a 2-step paint correction on my own car.

I saw that option too, however when I get mine delivered from ATL to VA, it’s going right to the local shop. They offer a full PPF or a high traffic areas PPF in the 5 or 10 yr. Main point would be my ability to go locally for warranty issues, check out their work, plus I didn’t want to drive it the distance fearing the worst with unfamiliar roads. I’m getting the windshield and panoramic done as well.

it’s just Porsche getting in on the $ action. To be fair it wasn’t an option before and I think the price isn’t that bad as an add on

I can confirm. I had a few surface scratches around the trunk/rear fenders due to who knows what. After PPF, I can't see them anymore (without paint correction).

Balancing cost versus appearance versus it going to be three year leased. The paint on our 1,536 mile Macan EV CPO when we got it was fantastic.

Besides getting washed carefully, It gets Adams ceramic detailer CS3 about once every three months. Looks so glossy and reflective in the sun now at 11,000+ miles.
