All- While having a new USB hub installed my Porsche dealer stated that I need new front tires - 921 for the tires but 1.1k for alignment which seems a bit excessive... anyone else in the US get an alignment at a Porsche dealer and if so what was the cost ?

Thanks.

I had this on my 4S and robustly challenged it as they had got it wrong and no alignment needed.

Requires removal of front bumper and both radiators then camera recalibration and so is labour intensive hence the excessive cost.

Go to a third party if you really have an alignment issue (which is possible).

Did you have any actual evidence of misalignment? Veering, or uneven wear?

I just had my two fronts changed, third party (Merityre) puncture in one, other half worn, alignment not offered because it wasn’t needed and great service.

I would ask around your locality for third party recommendations and get a second opinion if unsure about the alignment

My dealer quote $800. However, I opted for $200 check first and then decided that I did not need full alignment after reviewing the results.

Speaking of new tires, is it possible to get the new set aligned in such a way that it avoids the excessive inner tire wear that we all get? I don't mind the reduced cornering ability if that's what it takes. I assume it wouldn't reduce it that much anyway? Can't imagine that having the weight more evenly distributed on the tires would suddenly cause the car to have horrible grip, but I don't know much about performance vehicles...

I'm asking as someone who is still on their first set of tires (~24k miles) but will probably have to replace soon due to the excessive inner tire wear (whereas the treads themselves look great).

I had them adjust front toe (front camber is not adjustable), rear camber (need a $80 tool for that) and rear toe. Drives amazing now.

My dealer wanted $400+ for alignment, local tire shop charged $200 and much better deal on tires. I asked BOTH my dealer and the tire shop if there was anything special/tricky about doing alignment on this car, and they both said no. So I am wondering about the post saying bumper, etc needs to come off…sounds like one of us is getting lied to.

After the first two sets of tires wore out the inner edge, I started asking the shop to put my car in Sport mode for alignment, to match the way I always drive. My current set of tires has lasted about twice as long as the first two sets. Same brand and model of tire.

I don't think that we all get inner tyre wear. I didn't get it on my turbo S (front tyres changed at 14K miles) and my turbo does not have any inner tyre wear and it looks like I will have to change at 14k also. I usually drive in normal mode and have Michelin pilot sport tyres.

Got it. A Porsche indy shop wouldn't touch the toe since it wasn't out of spec. All they did was swap left and right wheels to help with an ever so slight tracking to the right with the wheel straight.

To the OP, if anything is needed other than toe adjustment, a dealer quote of 1k at a minimum isn't out of the ordinary. Camber requires lots of extra work. Price goes up the more sensors/cameras you have that that would need to be recalibrated.

I have taken my Porsche Taycan GTS with the rear wheel steering.

The alignment costs was quoted by one dealership to be over $4000. However the dealership where I purchased the vehicle quoted me $1700.
The alignment is rather critical. Perhaps they also discovered that since the alignment was off the tires go out soon.
The Porsche dealer also told me that they seldom do alignment.
If you keep the alignment been proper order the tires will last a lot longer.
The tires on the Porsche are of a very soft compound and they do tend to wear more than hard tires..
Essentially you very good by again when they wanted $1,1K for the alignment

hm ok, interesting. I usually drive in Normal, maybe the stock alignment was tuned for Sport and thus with a slight negative camber?
