That sucks, sorry man.

Separately, these exorbitant repair costs coupled with wild depreciation is exactly why we’re about to see a ton of Taycan’s patch-worked together - busted windshields, dents/scrapes, shitty aftermarket wheels, etc. Low entry fee into Porsche World and then BAM, you forget the Porsche tax still applies.

These repair costs are astronomical even by Porsche standards.
This apparently is the new, now publicly traded, Porsche standard. This repair has nothing to do with the fact that Taycan is an EV, I bet it would be the same on recently designed ICE Porsche.

This is the one I keep in my car. I’ve had to use it on my Macan once.

I've used similar kits in the past, they work well. I've even gone as far a polish the glass afterwards using a special polishing compound, so it was really hard to find unless you know where you're looking. Never had such a chip expand into a crack (small sample of 3 cars IIRC, all windshield chips).

Apparently it is major surgery requiring removal of the headliner, removal/replacement of the windshield, etc etc.

Absolute nightmare.
Purposefully designed to drive Porsche parts and dealer revenue, or the latest batch of engineers just don't know how to design for serviceability?

This is the world we now live in, unfortunately. I don't know what you are going to do, but I would take action against the insurer. Unless your policy has has a specific exclusion listing roof glass, it must be covered.
There are three things I would do:
  1. File a complaint with your state insurance department.
  2. If that does not work to get them moving, I would hire a lawyer.
  3. Repair, document and get rid of the car.
As a long time Porsche owner, I have been treated generally well with no complaints. However, the costs to repair these cars has moved into Ferrari territory. I am done with Porsche due to its service costs. I was charged $3,300 to replace a windshield and $1,300 to do the 20k service.

Yes, but the sunroof does not count as glass.
Apologies if this was mentioned earlier, but would you be willing to share what Auto Insurance company you use ?

I have car insurance through AAA and I know they are expensive, but all our insurance is though them. When I first added the Cross Turismo to the policy, I specifically asked if the panoramic roof was included in the "All Glass" policy and I was told "Yes" because it was glass. After reading your posts, now I'm wondering if that was true or not and if the agent and adjuster have different definitions of "All Glass".

I’m leaning this direction. I’ve instructed my dealer to begin the repair Monday, regardless of where this stands.

I doubt I will get rid of the car though; they’ve depreciated too much. I’m trying to hold on until the E-Boxster is out.

I am in the same Boat.

I just want o get out of this Trashcan now. Water leaks , bad heater, bad battery cells, etc etc.

But unfortunately the Trashcan is the same as owning a Bayliner motor boat in Europe. Quick to buy, cheap, but Impossible to get rid off. Nobody wants to take in a Trashacn for sale now here in France.

The dealer only wanted to discuss if I would order another Trashcan not even a Macan! That was the final drop for me!
