So far they haven‘t said “no” per se, just that they need to get approval for the supplemental amount requested by the dealer. Which they’ve been in NO hurry to do.
Ah, but thats sounds okish, right? Standard “expected costs” are approved directly, and higher than expected costs needs to go through a senior damage manager. I’m not sure if there is any diference with Dutch Vehicle insurance. But they can’t say no to repair costs here. (Few exceptions; war, hurricane, etc)

OKish, sort of.

I was out of town for a week and I specifically dropped the car off so it could be addressed during my trip. They assured me it would be, it was not.

Then another week afterward, me with no car.

I'm in the process of scheduling a move to California and don't have time for this to drag out much longer; if I don't get it resolved Monday I will pay it myself and fight with them directly for recompense.

Given the cost of replacement and associated headaches, this is another area on the Taycan that is worth considering a PPF treatment. While not designed for impact resistance, that thin piece of film may help in reducing the impact of a chip on glass.
I had my PPF shop run a 7 in wide strip across the entire pano glass to prevent rock chips. Fingers crossed it works.

It seems the guys at Audi had a better solution when they Audified the Taycan, offering a carbon fiber roof for the eTron GT.

I wonder how much it would cost to get a custom carbon fiber roof for a Taycan. With the costs of replacing the glass in the teens of thousands, perhaps a carbon fiber roof would not be much more to retrofit.

I think the bigger question is why are you moving to CA? I’ve lived here for all of my 43 years and I can’t wait to leave. I’m in San Jose and this place is no where near as nice as it used to be. In fact it actually kinda sucks with the liberal policies, homeless people and their tents everywhere, shitty roads, parks, schools, insane prices for everything, etc. People have been leaving CA in droves for a few years now. I’m sure they are all much happier. What city are you moving too?

I have a lot of reasons. I’ll leave it at that.

I think something is better than nothing in this case. My entire car (including the glass roof but excluding the windshield) is covered with PPF. I have had a few hard strikes against the roof thus far with no damage but one can only guess as to whether the PPF made the difference.

Apparently it is major surgery requiring removal of the headliner, removal/replacement of the windshield, etc etc.

Absolute nightmare.
What the...?!?!

Good grief. Between this thread and learning the 12v Li-ion battery is north of $1,500 to replace I can understand the depreciation. The Taycan borders Ferrari cost of ownership. I didn't do my due diligence before buying, I sometimes visit the service dept to get quotes for typical maintenance costs when looking at a particular vehicle. I got sucked into the "no oil changes", engine or transmission to service.

My next EV will involve a lot more research and survey before making a purchase.

i was about to ask Derek the same.
The homeless in tens along Central Ave. and the hobos in Mountain View drive me nuts. The city is not enforcing their own ordinance.
Will scout Austin to see if it is livable.

Let’s avoid politics on a car forum.

Sorry you are going through this. I also had a crack in my panoramic roof. It was very similar in appearance and size to your crack. The original repair quote was about $7000 from the dealer. Allstate insurance countered with about $5000. Some negotiations ensued. The final repair cost agreed to by the dealer was $5503.58. The glass roof was $3500.99, the labor was $1768.50 and the pane adhesive set was $234.36. With tax the total was $5834.08, completely paid for by the insurance company. This was in November, 2022.
How did your insurance classify the claim? In other words, is it chargeable for a rate increase?
