Very useful posts here. I have started having the same problem this summer. Is the new cable that is mentioned the connection from the charger to the 220V outlet? Most likely the cable. It's a known issue. Got a new cable from the dealer as they were able to reproduce the error.
Was the new one a heavy gauge than the original? Some thinks the original wire was undersized. I ran a 6 gauge from the breaker to my outlet, so one would think the power cable plugging into the outlet should be the same size.Mine's been working fine in 100+ garage temps in Dallas, since my replacement saga about three pages ago on this thread. I couldn't make myself live with throttling down the current by 50% -- that's like charging with a regular wall socket. Terrible that this is the "workaround" they suggest.
When they replaced my cable, it was the line from the charger to the car.
Yep, I had a bad cable as well. Needed to be replaced.Very useful posts here. I have started having the same problem this summer. Is the new cable that is mentioned the connection from the charger to the 220V outlet?
Which cable are you referring to? It sounds like you're saying the cable going from the PMC+ to the J1772. If I am not mistaken, from what I've read on here, it's the one that goes from the outlet to the PMC+ is the one with the issue (being too small for the amperage).I had the same issue and Porsche gave me a totally new cable - a much longer one that the original.
Both cables get hot and should be replaced. My Audi unit has noticeably larger wire and runs way cooler.Which cable are you referring to? Oh ok. I don't have first hand experience since I've only DC charged mine so I only go by what's on this forum. Both cables get hot and should be replaced. My Audi unit has noticeably larger wire and runs way cooler.
FWIW you don't have to completely back down to 50% to complete charging at home. Setting the charger at 32A should work.I have the same issue right now. I have to use the 50% option in order to complete a charging session at home. I’ll be reaching out to the dealership to get it fixed but in the meantime I ordered a wall charger (Lectron V-BOX) to replace the PCM+ as I don’t trust it will be permanently fixed.
