Most likely the cable. It's a known issue. Got a new cable from the dealer as they were able to reproduce the error.
Very useful posts here. I have started having the same problem this summer. Is the new cable that is mentioned the connection from the charger to the 220V outlet?

Mine's been working fine in 100+ garage temps in Dallas, since my replacement saga about three pages ago on this thread. I couldn't make myself live with throttling down the current by 50% -- that's like charging with a regular wall socket. Terrible that this is the "workaround" they suggest.

When they replaced my cable, it was the line from the charger to the car.

Was the new one a heavy gauge than the original? Some thinks the original wire was undersized. I ran a 6 gauge from the breaker to my outlet, so one would think the power cable plugging into the outlet should be the same size.

Yep, I had a bad cable as well. Needed to be replaced.

Can't really tell -- I didn't think to look at the old one closely enough before they swapped it out.

When I wasn't sure if they were actually going to come through with replacement parts, I ordered an after-market charging unit from Amazon. The dealership hated the idea of me using it, though, and I think it shook the new unit loose from the US inventory somewhere. I kept it, because I strongly suspect it will work better than the Mobile Charger Connect, once the new one fails on me.

Wanted to provide an update to this issue as I was having the same problem with charging errors and overheating of the Porsche supplied charger.

When I spoke to my dealer about this back in June, they didn't have an answer. I supplied them with the service bulletin posted in this thread at the time, and they agreed that was the issue, but didn't have a solution from corporate. I just reduced the charging rate from 40A to 32A and that worked for me as I usually only need about 25% overnight.

Anyway, when I dropped my car off for the big software update, the dealer gave me a call after it was done and told me that Porsche approved a replacement cable for the charger. It appears they replaced the cable from the charger to the car (not the pigtail to the outlet). I've only used it for one night at the full 40A output, but no errors. I'll update if I get any errors, but wanted to put this out there for those of you having the same issue.

My dealer told me to use the 50% setting. Can you post the work order showing the new cable # so I can show my dealer.
thanks

Which cable are you referring to? It sounds like you're saying the cable going from the PMC+ to the J1772. If I am not mistaken, from what I've read on here, it's the one that goes from the outlet to the PMC+ is the one with the issue (being too small for the amperage).

Both cables get hot and should be replaced. My Audi unit has noticeably larger wire and runs way cooler.

Oh ok. I don't have first hand experience since I've only DC charged mine so I only go by what's on this forum.

I have the same issue right now. I have to use the 50% option in order to complete a charging session at home. I’ll be reaching out to the dealership to get it fixed but in the meantime I ordered a wall charger (Lectron V-BOX) to replace the PCM+ as I don’t trust it will be permanently fixed.

FWIW you don't have to completely back down to 50% to complete charging at home. Setting the charger at 32A should work.
