If you are anything like me, you have loved your Taycan since day 1 (or even before). I still look back at it when I walk away….and smile because of the looks and driving dynamics, which I find particularly satisfying. The prototypes of the Gen 2 only made me love the Gen 1 more, with its oddly shaped bumpers and headlights. And then the thing happened, Porsche revealed the Gen 2 with arguably one of the most significant updates on a mid-cycle refresh in automotive history. All systems updated/improved (power, range, handling, etc) and the aesthetics went from a prototype negative to at a worst case only a production slight step back while providing tangible benefits all the way around. It’s the “iphonification of the EV”…..and I have the iphone X in an iPhone 15+ world.

I have an uneasy feeling. My car, while still awesome, seems different to me now. I see posts from “frustrated boy racers” all over the world either directly or indirectly expressing their FOMO as the Gen 2 flaunts its technical prowess.

I feel like buying a new Taycan is the wrong thing to do. I played my part in the first experiment and while it went well, it was costly and not without angst as I pray that my original heater makes it through another northeast winter. Shall I take thousands of dollars of a hit in depreciation for a bit more efficiency and 1/2 sec improvement in 0-60 times…..tough questions.

I am managing to work my way through this but perhaps there are others out there that are facing the same dilemma (good for you if you are not). Let’s support each other as we navigate through the next steps on what to do with this Stuttgart-based technical epiphany called the Gen 2 Taycan. Porsche has managed to stimulate another wave of interest in this EV but its has come at the expense of discomfort for at least some of the Taycan faithful. If you are feeling the discomfort, you are not alone.

The front end of the new Base and 4S lost all the beauty of the Gen 1 model. The Turbo and Turbo S look okay but Gen 1 is stunningly beautiful. Porsche really took a step back in looks With Gen 2. On the other hand, they have made a number of noticeable performance improvements. However, nothing enough to make me want to give up My beloved GTS. Super happy I have a Gen 1 GTS!

It’s pretty simple really. If you routinely make 500+ mile road trips, your experience will be materially better in the Gen 2. If you don’t, there’s no compelling reason to upgrade. For example, the new Macan EV gets upgraded interior tech and a real sunroof. I understand the idea of upgrading to a Macan for the average commuter more than upgrading to a Gen 2 Taycan.

Good god listen to yourself. This sounds pathetic tbh. It’s a car, that gets improvements like every car ever made. To expect anything less after being out for 5 years is lunacy.
Dude, really? This isn’t the thread with people pissed off about the major refresh (how dared Porsche), this is for those a bit sad the day came when their cars became slightly outdated. There’s a difference, and I’m not sure it’s “pathetic”. It’s okay to vent, no?

Haha, I get it! We’re car folks. It’s silly, but sometimes it’s about more than the car itself. For me, after years of following development of the Taycan, my original Taycan was like seeing a dream come out of a poster and into my driveway. It marked the start of my family and breaking through the clouds in my professional career. A great time in life with great memories. Inevitably, time marches on and the new becomes the old—or seasoned :) Maybe it reminds us that it’s all temporary in the end. Not sure if I’ll ever recapture the magic of that original car. First EV, monstrous power and it was art on wheels. Great memories but I’m still excited for what the future holds. The refresh is impressive and it has me convinced that Porsche is committed. Gonna keep rocking my OG dad wagon for a few years to come though!

Still enjoying my 2020 turbo but definitely feeling the pain of that depreciation hit. I was actually looking to trade it in a few weeks ago but couldn't even get several Porsche dealerships to return my calls for a trade in offer. Still really enjoying the car and will probably continue to drive it for another year or so now but thinking if I could go back to 2019, I'd pass on the allocation for a 2020.

Hello, my name is Paul and I'm addicted to stuff that I really don't need. But with the support of the group, I pledge to stand by my current love and not be tempted by the even more exciting capability of the newcomer...at least until it's been around a bit so got cheap.

I agree - maybe we should lobby for Porsche to offer a battery upgrade retrofit in a few years?
