I have an ST GTS. MY23
A week ago the PCM announced that the 12v battery was weak and then the screen went black.
I had the car transported to my local PD.
Since a week the car is in the shop. They do not know what the cause is of the problem. So, they contacted Zuffenhausen. They received all data and checked the car directly per OTA connection. Nevertheless, they do not know what is wrong. How is this possible? Anyone that had a similar experience?

I stored my car for 5 months, left it plugged in to charger and the 12 volt battery died 2 years in a row. Luckily I leased a new a new one. Next time I’ll use a trickle charger even though they don’t recommend it.

Porsche do recommend it for longer term storage.

I have a 2023 St GTS and 12 volt battery died after 3 weeks parked in my garage . Cold temps so garage was regularly 45 degrees . Towed it to dealer who recharged 12volt battery and said nothing wrong. Dealer says if car is not driven for two weeks in cold weather it is common for 12 volt to die. Dealer says HV battery only charges 12 volt when car is being driven.

I just had the same experience with my 22 GTS. I didn't drive it for 4 weeks and found it dead. Luckily the tow diver was able to get it to 'wake up'. I'll know what to do if this happens again next time at least. Also, FYI, I got a call from Vodafone at 3 in the morning 2 days prior to this. My car was in the garage so I told them it wasn't stolen and found it odd at the time. Now I'm guessing it must've been the dead battery that trigged the call.

Man, I thought we had resolved this 3 years ago when Porsche said you should simply leave your Taycan plugged in to a charger when out of town for a while. My understanding was that the HV battery would periodically be used to keep the 12V Lithium-Ion batter at full charge.

When and why did the recommendation to use a trickle charger come about? Anyone know?

It is documented in the user manual.

Yep, I saw the page out of the manual, but my question remains - when and why?

We've had the "no trickle charger needed" recommendation in place since 2020. If Porsche is changing the recommendation, then I assume it is retroactive to all model years, and I'd like to know when that happened, and why.

I know this isn't a recall or anything, but I'm also curious why there isn't a technical note or something so that our Service Agents can notify us when we come in for service.

UPDATE - Just checked the User's Manual on My Porsche app and son of bitch -- it reads just like your user manual...

Porsche Taycan Issue with 12v battery 1741066093717-2x

QUESTION -- Now that I've established to my satisfaction that Porsche wants me to trickle charge my 12V battery when leaving the car for over 6 weeks, I'd like to ask the Forum for recommendations on the best Trickle Charger brand. There are quite a few options out there, and I value your opinions.

The recommendation has been in place since 2020. Below is the official Porsche documentation.

As for a good trickle charger look for a CTEK Lithium Charger. As long as the trickle charger is designed for Lithium charger, as the charging parameters are different from normal lead acid batteries
