Hi there. I have a 4CT daily driver. LOVE it! I drive a little bit around Denver, but a few times a year, I'll drive to the mountains (skiing/camping) or long distance trips (April I'm going to San Francisco.) I have snow tires mounted on 20" rims, but I need tires from April through November.
I also have 21" rims and was going to buy new tires for that.
Safety is my #1 concern
My second concern is durability. (I had Continentals and they wore out in less than 15,000 miles!!!)
And yes, I'll drive it like a Porsche while I'm on some long stretch of road in the middle of nowhere, but that's rare. I'm much more concerned about safety with crowded highway drivers/stopping power. Denver's highway traffic has just gotten insane.
A little research on ChatGPT says that tires with 19" or 20" rims will wear out slower, so I'm considering selling my 21" rims and buying 20" rims and tires.
Am I nuts? Love your thoughts.
EDIT: WOW! Thank you. I just finished work and your comments are invaluable.
Gemini AI recommended: Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 and Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus Elect, but I can't figure out how to buy them in either 20" or 21". So, of the ones I could buy, it recommended: Hankook iON evo AS SUV or Continental DWS 06 Plus. They're both about the same price, but Hankook is more durable and has better efficiency and Continental is more of a performance tire, which also potentially means more safe. I'm not a performance driver, so...
FINAL EDIT:
I simply couldn't buy the Hannok. A EV car guy friend said consider the 19" rims if my breaks would allow (they do) for efficiency and the HPDE instructor at PCA Autocross 101 said they're better for autocross. I'm realizing that 21" inch rims are like stilettos. Really expensive and easily breakable but pretty.
--> I just bought Taycan S Area 19" Take off rims w/Michelin Pilot Sport 4. This wheel set was cheaper than just the rims anywhere else so I'm ok if these tires don't last more than a year.
