Depends on the Porsche lease details. Monthly rates may be offered such that Porsche pre-eats some expected depreciation in order to move more metal.

I got a 2 yr old Taycan, mint condition, with 13,000 miles, for 56% off MSRP. Sticker was $156k. I appreciated the depreciation and would not have bought the car new. I generally wait at least one full yr, and under 15,000 miles when I buy a car. Rarely do I buy new as I do not hold onto my cars long and do not want to take a huge hit.
56% off MSRP sounds very good to me. I’m considering one at 45% off msrp right now.

I've been looking at Taycans for a while. Would love to own one, but I can't get my head around the valuations. There's a car I really like, it's a nearly-new, well-specced JI.2 up for over £110K. But when you type the reg number into something like Webuyanycar or Auto Express, you get a valuation of around £55K – less than half price! I suspect these lowball figures are totally ignoring the options, but even so... I shudder to think of the valuation in two years' time. I've lost a ton on my BMW i4 M50, but this is next-level depreciation.

Yes its not something Porsche like to tell you when selling a car. Mine was £120 000 new and 15 months later Porsche Aberdeen offered £56 000 with only 11 000 miles on it . Probably better to buy a 2 year old with low mileage unless you are willing to drop serious money . Best to lease electric cars as its built into monthly cost

And the moment I post, the car I was looking at has been sold. Bloody typical. Oh well, it was very expensive and full of options Is probably don't need.

Good to hear that Taycan owners like the car. Still tempted; I'll see what else comes up in the coming months.
When I bought mid last year the car I found was not yet advertised so it's worth talking to the dealers - where you are you have the choice of Porsche Centre Bristol and Swindon, both the same group (Dick Lovett) so the stock will be the same; they also have Newport and Tewkesbury centres. I'd recommend you call Bristol and ask to speak to James.

I'm in Bristol and never felt the car to be huge - though the handling does hide the size and weight very well. I also had 4 years driving Panameras so actually the Taycan is (slightly) smaller :CWL:.

I reckon on 50% at 3yrs, which is normal IMO.
That is Jaguar territory, highly not normal.

I leased a Taycan in Jan 2024. While commenting to the F&I guy that getting a $22,000 discount from list was what motivated me to get it, he replied “We can’t give EV’s away”. The residual was 50% for 36 mos.

When I mentioned that, he said if I were leasing a new ICE Macan, same lease, the residual was 65%. Porsche historically residualize well, but not for EV.

For me, I bought my 2021 Taycan CPO knowing I paid more than I should have considering the depreciation would get worse over time but I decided up front that I would never sell it so depreciation is meaningless to me.
I’m more concerned about the cost to repair or replace the batteries and major subsystems once my warranties end in 2030.
For people who don’t plan to keep the vehicle indefinitely the depreciation numbers can be really scary & off putting to say the least.
I only buy cars to keep which means I have to buy or build more garage space…

Yeah, I really want the newer facelift model. Maybe I'll come back this time next year, see how things lie.

EDIT: Oh, you're just down the road in Bristol. How are you getting on with the size of the car along our tiny roads in the SW?
I too live in South West. Caution is advised due to width and some seaside harbours can be a challenge with narrow streets. But hey ho, a small penalty to pay.

Classic sales staff nonsense, trying to make you feel sorry for them and view any discount as some sort of great sacrifice on their behalf.
If we were to approach that same person now and ask about any J1.2 on the lot, do we think the purchase discount % would get much above the single digits, perhaps low teens?
(As for the $22k discount back in Jan '24, $7.5k of that was just b/c PFS receives a tax break of that amount for any lease.)

It varies with the current fashion, supply and demand and probably brand image which varies from country to country.

Here I think it has been very strongly distorted by tax loopholes, incentives and the component shortages we had during the pandemic and invasion of Ukraine.
Plus the effective and well funded propaganda campaign from the well subsidised fossil fuel industries which do everything they can to prolongue their trip on the gravy train.

The cigarette companies spent a fortune on propaganda and remain profitable too.

The Taycan shrinks around you size wise when driving and doesn't feel like a big car UNTIL on the narrow roads I use in the Oxfordshire countryside it is definitely hugely wide when there is oncoming traffic and parking is tight everywhere.

It was something that gave me second thoughts before I ordered one and it takes a lot of the fun out of having a good handling car on narrow country roads. I go faster in our much narrower Prius a lot of the time.

I’m in awe of how cheap they are honestly. Will be purchasing one in the next year or so. I find them strikingly attractive and timeless, and I plan on keeping mine for life.

We’re heading toward an all-EV future so it will be cool to own the very first Porsche EV. Might be the oldest Porsche you see on the roads in 20-30 years…

50% is broadly where Panameras are here. Maybe a bit more.

6-figure, non-limited edition sports saloons are all impacted heavily one way or another. Regardless of drive train.

Taycans were impacted hard due to other double whammies due to their timing of release...new shiny demand ramp up, supply issues due to Covid and Ukraine, Porsche then not managing the supply side thinking the demand side over that period was different to what it actually was etc.

That depreciation curve will flatten out massively IMO. Though ultimately I don't care... I usually keep cars a while. Don't see this being any different.

Allegedly they are getting it under control for J1.2. Not entirely convinced, but we'll see.

They also have to contend with "all but recessions" in key markets now. The market for 6-figure sports saloons is tight. They are being helped by tax incentives here (that should never have been available)... They will dry up soon and I think Porsche will struggle again. Not "because EV"... "because expensive sports saloon".

I'm in Cheeg's camp. Bought my 2021 Taycan 4S new with a small discount from list. I still love it after 4 years, and plan to keep it until I can find something I like better. I've test driven everything I would consider and so far, have found nothing even close in driving enjoyment and quality.
