My First Experience with Magic Dock

I tried the 12 new magic docks near Lynnfield, MA USA. The magic dock adapter looks very much like the adapters Tesla is providing to Ford and Rivian (of course you can't separate it from the NACS). I found the mechanical tolerances to be questionable because the first ones I tried did not click into my CCS port, despite pushing in pretty hard. I had to try three chargers before I found an adapter that comfortably "clicked in." Also, you can see that I will need to park like this, - there were two spots where this doesn't block other chargers. But it does work. Started the charge with the Tesla app and the car charged at about 110kW @50% & warm; with the 400V option. I also had a Model 3 driver yelling at me from the other end that I can't charge my car here. I corrected him.

Your experience with the adapters being hard to plug in reminded me of my own experience which broke the tab on the charging flap. I expect that tab is part of the reason for the increased friction.

I would have shown him the "Charge non-Tesla" section of the app and suggested he take it up with Elon.

if you look at the pic the OP posted you can see how he had to block about 3 slots in order to access the charger that he was at.

So actually this location has an end charger and a middle charger with extra room to pull a little sideways and not block other spaces, but yes, I would normally have to block spaces. The rumor is that there will be an adapter with an extension, and also that V4 superchargers will have longer cords. The superchargers I’m interested in using are in the rural areas with no CCS and rarely have more than one or two teslas at a time.

So the thing about parking position, they do call out in app for non-teslas to NOT park sideways and to only park on the line only if needed to reach, but not recommended.

Either way, nice timing, since my wife drove her i4 to Philadelphia -- from our home in mASSachusetts (specifically, Amherst) -- yesterday, then back again today, stopping at the Clark NJ Magic Dock.
The BMW phone app graphs out the session's charging curve, and at each session, the graph ended up looking exactly like the theoretical charging curve, or actually a little faster, since a recent software update is thought to have bumped up some portions of the curve.
I was also talking with her at the time: she would say, "now it's down to X kW" and I'd check the published curve, yep, right according to schedule.

Meanwhile, in the alternative universe that is CCS1, I stopped for a bit of a charge yesterday while driving to NH and getting groceries.
Fortunately, I didn't need any more of a SoC boost than I received while shopping, but graphing out that curve would be pretty easy at a constant 48kW (from a 50kW EVgo, a mile away from two new 50kW chargers installed recently under a VT state program from 2019 funding).

We can hear some football games, although might be my alma mater (far smaller, yet closer).
I definitely see the aftermaths of many Zoo Mass parties when I bike through town early on Saturday and Sunday mornings, beer cups and other detritus strewn on the lawns.

Let's hope the Dedham and Canton locations will be v4 with their better non Tesla access.
