Hello.. I’m new here and have recently got a 4S second hand that I’m very happy with. I have had a tethered unit at home and got a 3 pin plug to type 2 charging cable.
the question I have is.. do I need a type 2 to type 2 cable? 95% of times I’ll be charging at home but I will charge on the road mainly at service stations and am unsure if I’ll need a cable or they have one already. All the local charging points seem to have no cables but I’m guessing motorway service stations probably would be tethered? So do I need to get one or not? Many thanks!!!

I think some of the on-street chargers (eg Source and lamp posts) need you to 'supply' the cable, but anything DC will be tethered which is what the majority of service stations will provide.

That said, it's probably worth having an AC cable in the car for occasional/emergency use of an on-street supplier.

@BigBob is spot on. If you use a slower charger, such as 7kw or 22kw, then you will need your own type 2 cable (certainly in my experience). I have used mine twice, although only had the car for just under 4 weeks, so based on that, it might come in handy. Although to be fair I was trying out the chargers whilst I was shopping. New toy and all that....

There should have been an L2 cable for public AC charging supplied with the car - if not go back to the dealer.

There should also be a 32A (or 16A) cable in addition to the 3 pin supplied with the standard Porsche EVSE. Charging at home only makes sense with a 32A setup to achieve overnight charging. This will charge at 0.3 miles per minute compared to 0.1 miles per minute with the 3 pin plug (emergency use only or if away from home).

Thanks all. I think I’ll take the advice and hassle the dealer! Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
