Firstly I appologise if thsi has been covered but cant see an answer.

On my second Taycan and after 37k in the first one and 4k so far in the second one I have had no issues with charging.

Been using Octopus intelligent since November and again no issues its always over ridden the car and charged at the best value times, however about 10 days ago the whole thing has gone haywire !! Somehow the car or octopus is creatiing timers in the Porsche and then failing to charge against the timers.

I have turned off intelligent charging on the cotopus app and that makes no difference, I have also got a non Octopus charger at work and even now that is screwing up and the car isnt charging proerly / keeps on failing.

It charges fine at both Porsche centre (DC) and at hotel chargers.

Its very confusing, I keep deleting the profiles it is creating but they keep comming back and whilest I can turn off teh general profile it wont delete ...

Any advice very welcome or is anyone else haveing similar issues ?

Thanks

it sounds like you have octopus intelligent (OI) integrated with the car. Which EVSE do you have? If it is one which supports direct integration (ohme, myenergi Zappi or Wallbox) then you can directly integrate with that rather than the car.

if you can do this, it means OI won’t be messing around setting profiles on the car and all you need to do is plug in at home and let OI set its charge schedule. This would then free you up to plug in elsewhere and not have the car profiles interfere.

I’ve just purchased a new Taycan 4s and have the same issue charging. I’m using an Evac home charging unit and apparently it’s a known issue with Octopus. Advice given was to delete all timers and profiles from the vehicle and allow them (Octopus) to deliver the charge when the grid is available for reduced tarrif. This is totally unacceptable for me as there is no guarantee of teaching the required charge before departing. Porsche CS are also aware of the issue but powerless to intervene. If I wish to be in control of my lower cost charging habits I will have no other option than to change energy supplier.

If the random timers appearing in the car are labelled ‘Enode’ then they are being set by Intelligent Octopus and you haven’t disabled smart charging effectively via the Octopus app.

I use Intelligent Octopus Go with smart charging disabled and just set my own car profile and timers. Works flawlessly and never overcharges my car like Octopus does.

That sounds a very simple solution. Can’t understand why Octopus never told me to do that. Would it be perhaps the low rate tariff is not always starting and ending at a the same time.
But thanks for the info I’ve already disabled the smart charge option in the app and will try it this evening.

You always get the cheap £0.075 rate between 23:30 - 05:30 for your car and home on this tarrif. The only thing you miss out on by not using smart charging in the app is the additional cheap hours Octopus sometimes randomly introduce during the day and night. I find it so random that I can’t make proper use of it anyway.

Disabling smart charging will mean it only charges at the cheap rate between 23:30 & 05:30

ah - covered in post above.

The enode profile creation is odd but seems to work so I just leave it as it is and let octopus do the work. To date I’ve always had cheap rate when car is charging (well with exception of one bump charge yesterday)

Great I’m looking forward to being able to be in control of setting timers and profiles as charging tutorials suggest.
Really helpful information thankyou

Octopus is also great if you need more charge than you’d normally get in 6hrs. I’ve had it start at 7.5p at 21:00 before and up to 07:00. Which of course gives you the cheaper rate for the whole house too

I've had the odd episode where the car has over charged (to 100% rather than the stated 85%).

When this has happened, I've removed all timers from the car, and adjusted the charge target in the Octopus app.

It seems to then sort itself.

The enode timers are what Octopus are sending to the car. Don't worry about what they're set to.

The big drawback with this is that you cannot set the car to preheat for departure time. The integration Octopus do needs a lot of work (frankly I think their fundamental approach is flawed).

I'm persevering at present in the hope that extra cheap slots become more frequent. Thus far I think I've only had about 3hrs extra in 7wks...so am not sure the savings are worth the downsides.

I had to fix a similar issue by removing the device (car) and adding it again through the Octopus app.

You will need to sign into your My Porsche account again to connect the Taycan during the process.

Yeah, don’t pay attention to the ENodes, and just let the app do its thing.

I’ve spent a lot of time playing with different options on the OI tariff. I have a zappi charger. This process works perfectly for me every time now. I typically charge the battery 50/60% each night to get to 85%. The Zappi controls the charge, originally I disabled all timers and profiles on the car (bear with me). When the car is plugged in, the octopus app asks how much charge you want to add. While octopus do have my correct battery details I found the percentage of charge I requested to add was not 100% accurate (+/-5%). In truth what’s 5% between friends, but I always try to keep to the 85% max charge. I then realised (via some research on the myenergi forum), if you set the general profile to 85%, the car won’t allow it to charge beyond that figure. I had always thought the profile % was min, not max (maybe it is in different situations), but in this situation it works perfectly. So a typical charge for me consists of getting home in the evening, say battery state is 50% I’ll add 40% (to deal with +/- variance) charge to the octopus app, knowing the profile will cap it at 85% anyway.

A couple of points to note

Until the charge commences, the car will say charging error.
When the car stops the charge at 85%, as octopus are still trying to charge the car, the octopus app will send a notification saying lost comms with the car.
I regularly get more than 6hr‘s of the cheap rate. Maybe once twice a week.
the OI app remembers the last charge % you added so if you forget to set it up one evening, it will just do what it did the night before.
Arguably you could add 100% each night from the app, night knowing the car will stop charging at 85%, but i gather from the myenergi forum Octopus will pick up on this as it will look like your ‘gaming’ the system forcing the cheap rate for the longest window. That’s not for me.
Zappi set to eco plus for me as we have solar.
Sometimes the OI app does not bring up the ‘devices’ tab, I just offload the app under iPhone storage, the reload and that fixes it.

Its taking a few different tries over the last 6 weeks since collecting the car, but for me, this set up works flawlessly and I’m not checking my phone each morning wondering what on earth has happened over night…it just works.

Thankyou all for the great reply’s !!
Especially Matt for the detail,I am getting the same issues especially the bit about the charging error before it charges, I have that bit as well !!
it’s frustrating as it’s worked perfectly for since it was installed and just on normal (non intelligent) for the previous 2 years.
i am going to delete apps and start again to see what happens.
Thanks again

I disabled the smart charge last night and set the general profile to an 85% max charge.
The car already had 80% but I wanted to see if this fixed the issue.
Woke up again this morning with a charging error and still the 80% .
Do I need to do something else or just roll over and let Octopus take control and forget being able to use the preheat function
