you need to turn off the car and lock the door. It will be done within 15 minutes. That's how it worked for me. However, the PCM froze on me after the update. I had to use the two fingers reset. After that no more issues. This update is for fast DC charge. It allows higher KW in the battery even at higher state of charge.
You missed the bit that there was NO update available when I checked mine - I did close and lock the car (each of 3 times checked) and on return still no update available.

But since your response it looks like that may have changed today from posts above - I need to go check and see if it has reached my car.

You have to wait until it displays on its own in the PCM. it first started at least 1.5 to 2 months ago in Europe. I got mine less than 2 weeks ago. I think they make this to avoid being overloaded in updates all at the same time

Got my update today! Worked fine, no drama.

Interesting they decided to do a push to prod on a weekend...that was a bold choice.

Hmmm - surely this should mean Houston folk would see it too - as of now I have zero notices for the OTA update.

Here is the weird part - I got in the car and went through the usual procedures to see if the notice would pop-up and nothing (includes in and out. on and off, locking etc etc).

Then I tried the Updates app in the PCM and sure enough it was STILL spinning and stuck - so, decided to just do the 2-finger PCM reboot (in case an irretrievable sw hang) and once PCM returned I could now access the Updates app (no longer stuck spinning) in the PCM - however it stated the usual 'Your System is up to date'.

So I guess the question is, as the Updates app was stalled out, was it masking a load process for this new OTA update automatically (I have the infotainment updates 'load automatically' selected in the PCM but surely this OTA different and would still need my permission/co-operation to proceed?)?

I'll try again later in case the OTA update is simply slow to post/appear on the local Houston servers but still odd.

Worst case I'll get the dealership to look on Monday when I drop it off for the updated 2023 fan shroud re-design to be installed.

Again, I entirely understand that I need to see the update notification :) - but agree re your suggestion i.e. that it might be a phased delivery so Dallas getting it before Houston just might be normal.

Keep in mind it could be on a controlled rollout schedule, or even a small sample size as a canary. Only Porsche knows.

I can say that I got the notification popup while I was in line at Starbucks this morning. I clicked "Read Out" and it read the breakdown of how to start it, etc.

Excited, I pulled over and shut off the car. I had an option to apply the update, and it warned me to have no animals/people in the car. I was going to stay put anyway, but then I thought maybe the internal alarm sensor might disrupt it. So, I exited and locked the car and killed time in Starbucks.

Once I saw the car online again in the My Porsche app I went back out and got back in the car, which had a warning that the update was still being applied.

Once that disappeared I was able to power on the car and got a notification that the update was applied successfully.

Porsche Taycan OTA Software Update (July 17, 2023)! 20230722_110705

It started just fine:

Porsche Taycan OTA Software Update (July 17, 2023)! 20230722_105832

When it was installing I opened the door and just like usual the car fully shut down, bug? But my advice stay in the car until done. Retried again but do not get option to update yet although it still shows update available.

Ot maybe weak connection in garage not sure.

I'll try again in an hour or so

They likely optimized for the user's "maintenance window" (ie not driving) rather than their own. I'm sure it was "all hands on deck" on their side.

Well, the advanced notification email did say "exit & lock the car; the update will start after". This basically ensures there is no interference from the user with the PCM. Your test shows the update can handle that possibility, though, without bricking the car. (I assume?)

Houstonian checking in…received mine over 2 hours ago while driving, which I believe the email says that’s when it gets downloaded

Well I must be special or maybe vice-versa! :) Still nothing here.

Out of curiosity did anyone check/know their system SW version before and after this OTA update - I'm guessing that this OTA would not change that but still curious and I can at least check that!

Mine is K3823 or PCM 3823.

I got the "starting...3 minutes" message and opened the door, turning off the screens. I was also worried that it messed the installation up, but I exited, locked the door, and ~20 minutes later when I checked to see if it worked everything had installed correctly.

Before you run the update it can be Interesting to read the SOH with ODBII. Read it after may reveal some interesting findings.

Yep updated your readout on the chart and again I am certain that Porsche have used this chart and are now giving us all a Soh bump for our troubles - all about optics :)!!!

For some data context have a look here (all from chart in Post 1 in that thread):

Thanks for sharing the detailed OTA update experience. Very helpful.
