Damn, now I want a J1.2

Because of how the gearing works, all the 4WD J1.2 actually make a tiny bit more wheel torque in 1st gear than the J1.1 Turbo S, because the rear contributes roughly 2x more than the front in 1st gear.
So they are not slower.

If you want AR and a lot of the handling goodies - PTV, 4WS, then the Taycan GTS is actually the sweet spot. You can't get AR on the Taycan 4, and if you spec the Taycan 4S close to the GTS spec, then there's like 2-3k difference between them in price, so might as well get a GTS at that point.

Actually still quite happy with my J1.1 though, doing a real good job so far.
And than there is the desire for a 911 to be satisfied next.

I need to get a J1.2 because the development is completely done on the J1.1 and I want to do some silly things with the push to pass button . So going to ship the J1.1 back to Germany and sell it there, it's easier than selling it here I think.

Not sure if it has been asked. What about the cooling system? I know when I am in sport plus on my '20 Turbo the cooling fans are extremely loud all the time. Does this happen with the tune as well in modes other than sport plus?

Of course not, because the thermal target is not altered.
The battery temp target is chosen based on charisma (driving mode) in the BMS. The ASG has no say in it, so you couldn't do that by modifying the ASG even if you wanted to.

It just sets max cooling for the battery when you're in sport plus. The upgraded ASG does not limit the power to any one mode unless you specifically desire a such limitation.

From factory the power is the same in all modes as well except for launch control, even in the range mode (it just has a top speed limiter).

With the tune you have the same power in all the modes, but they all still drive different.
The range mode is always in 2nd gear so you have much less actual wheel torque.
The normal mode is in 2nd gear after 10km/h and then kicks down to 1st when you floor it, which has a fairly significant delay.
The sport mode is the full monty, but without the extra battery cooling and very stiff suspension settings.
Sport plus has the same power and response, but additionally looser traction control, maximum battery cooling and stiffer suspension.

Hence, artificially limiting the power in the modes isn't a good idea, and the factory didn't do it either. This is why I also don't recommend any customers to have different power in driving modes, as the way they are set up the car already has a massive difference in power delivery depending on which mode you're in.

That explains it really well. I drive in sport/sport around the city, and normal on the freeway. I will probably grab the tune next month, already spent my fun money this month

Hopefully the J1.2 will be cheap enough when I trade this one in 3 years from now. I really want that active ride and better infotainment.

Review of the tune:

Purchased a couple weeks ago, 1 week on 21' Turbo S. Drives like mad, and having never previously bothered to do a launch control launch, just hitting the pedal is phenomenal. Also, normal mode no longer has weird downshift when you hit the pedal that it used to do when it suddenly downshifted. Given I had the turbo s, power diff isn't as big as some of the other options, but still noticeable. I will hopefully find a moment to do some back to back comparison runs and report back, but honestly Prj provided so much data not sure theres much left for me to show. Either way, welcome add to the car and honestly would have bought a GTS and this mod had I known this was going to exist.

It should because the data for that comes from the ASG.

I guess they send out the same request as during launch control. Push to pass is supposed to be a "maximum attack" mode, so it is not surprising they do more than just up the power.

I need to get myself a J1.2 test car for a bit so I can mess with all this stuff, so far I did not have much time beyond doing the development to make it flash in the car and the power tuning, plus porting over the firmware mods that I did for the J1.1.

I just yesterday finalised my order for the MapEV tune after many weeks of trying to find someone with a portable PC with an Ethernet port (as I'm a Mac user and my MacBook Air doesn't have an EtherNet port) that could help me read the OBD port with the ENET cable and then upload the data to MapEV, and today I got a message from DHL that the tuned ASG will arrive tomorrow – fast work by prj!

Also, I made some customised modifications to my tune (I have a 2023 GTS Sport Turismo) which prj was very kind to accommodate:

- I wanted the Normal mode to remain as "stock" (for comfort and in case my wife or son drives the car; although my son would probably switch to Sport mode anyway , so I had the power increase implemented in Sport and Sport Plus only, not in Normal

- Unfortunately the unfiltered throttle response couldn't be implemented in the latter two modes only, so that was still implemented in Normal as well (no biggie, I just would otherwise have preferred Normal mode to remain completely stock)

- I also decided to keep the top speed limiter, as I rarely ever drive beyond 200 km/h anyway, and in case someone else should drive the car it feels slightly safer with the limit kept at 250 km/h rather than having it removed and at 270 km/h

- Finally, I initially asked prj to modify the brake regen by adding 40%, as I felt the car would feel sportier with more "engine resistance" (like lifting the gas pedal on an ICE car when it's in the high rev range), but eventually decided to keep as it is as per prj’s recommendation

I've been thinking about upgrading to the J1.2 in the near future, so I asked prj if the ASG could be used for the newer model as well (with new software on it of course), but unfortunately the newer model uses a different ASG (I mention this in case someone else is also considering trading to the newer model soon).

And just like prj points out above, the GTS is still the sweet spot – even though you can get the same power with the tune on a 4 or 4S, equipping these up to GTS standard (including all other extras) would place them at nearly the same price (I've made factory specs for both the 4S and the GTS on the Porsche web site so I can confirm this .

Based upon the data above, I have three questions for prj that I thought I would put here instead of sending him another of my many emails ;-).

Q1: On the J1.1 the spec says 850 NM in all drive modes, but on the J1.2 it says 720 NM in the drive modes while 790 NM in the launch and boost modes—is the torque lower in the drive modes on the J1.2 only (while the same on the J1.1)?

Q2: On the J1.2 Porsche specifies the torque as lower than on the J1.1 (790 NM vs 850 NM), even though the power is specified as higher (700 PS vs 598 PS)—why so?

Q3: On the J1.1 the tuned spec says 800 PS at 100% SoC, while on the J1.2 it says 940 PS without mentioning SoC—will the power be lower on the J1.1 when SoC is less than 100%, while the power will be the same on the J1.2 regardless of SoC (or at least down to say 20%)?

I'm really looking forward to trying out the tuned ASG (although it may take me many weeks to get it installed as I don't want to do it myself; I know the video on the web site is very instructive, but I would hate if I messed up and broke something, so I figure better to find someone who has done this before, even if this may take me a while...), and will return with my own reflections once accomplished!

There is no rhyme or reason to them. On some models the launch and the boost power and torque are equal, on others there's 3 different power levels, etc.
After the tune J1.1 is 910Nm and J1.2 is 990 Nm.

Ask Porsche. You can see the actual power and torque on the website
The specified by Porsche does not match reality often. If you compare our numbers to the official Porsche numbers you will see that. But ours are directly from the control unit, so they are correct.

The J1.2 Turbo GT can do 860 kW at 90% SoC...
The 4S I measured 691 kW at 90% SoC.
But that's the peak, at higher speed it falls off, especially for the Turbo GT, the 4S is pretty flat - still makes 671kW at 200km/h, whereas the Turbo GT has fallen to "only" 805kW at that point . Anyway you have to worry a lot less about the performance being impacted by the battery on the J1.2 unless you have a Turbo GT.

Question regarding the suspension.

On your website I read:
"Simultaneously the suspension is stiffened and the traction control adjusted for optimal acceleration. Without this unique function, that only we provide, it is impossible to exceed 950 Nm of torque outside of launch control".

My car is a TS CT, like yours, including PDCC.
Does it mean I always need to drive with stiff suspension (like it is in sport plus all the time kind of feeling)?

As if so that will infringe on comfort (which I do value), I also value more power/torque...bit of a dilemma as such....or can I still drive in a "comfort" modus while having max torque and power?
