This may happen eventually but I don’t think anyone actually has had a gen 1.2 battery installed their Taycan by Porsche. Just went through this and while my dealer says it’s a 2025 pack I don’t believe it is.

There's actual hope, though. There's a technical service bulletin issued by Porsche on the matter:

So even though this may not yet have implemented, I reckon the above means it will.

I just hope once it does, someone will find the way to use the new battery pack to its full potential. At least in regards to the range.

I'm currently in the market for a J1.1 Turbo S. From what I've heard, J1.1 cars with a failed battery are now getting a J1.2 battery as replacement, apparently because LG Chem no longer produces the old battery.

You heard incorrectly, nobody has the J1.2 battery in a J1.1 car because the J1.1 stock has not run out yet.

Unfortunately, it seems that Porsche will limit the cars, so that they won't be able to access the additional storage that is available with the new J1.2 battery. Therefore, no increase in range despite of running a higher capacity battery.

Please state the source of this information.
For now I will call BS on that because there will be top or bottom balancing issues that way.

How about not inventing problems that do not exist and then trying to find solutions to those imaginary problems?

We need to wait and see what exactly will happen. Most likely full capacity will be available, this has been so always in the past with other manufacturers who went the same route for technical reasons.

You're probably right. I simply read that information here in the forum several times, and the people discussing that seemed knowledgeable and well-informed.

So out of ignorance, I just took that information at face value: I am completely uneducated in the topic, so I am in no position to question or challenge what these people said about the limitations of the new battery pack. Hence why I began saying "I heard".

We will find out when it happens and then get all the data.
It would be logical they just flash the BMS with the J1.2 calibration and everything else continues to operate normally.

Right now there's just a ton of speculation and the J1.1 batteries haven't run out yet (but they will someday, and Porsche prepared for that), and until they do we really can't get any concrete info.

Back from vacation and also have my car, so decided to mess around a little with regen, as a lot of people want the single pedal driving feel.

I was able to re-tune the anti surge damper to fix the jerks and increase the regen by up to 900%.
That much might not even be needed since lifting off at 70km/h is quite similar to pushing the brakes now.

At lower speeds I was able to dial it in so that you can one pedal drive all the speed bumps and e.g. right hand give way signs in 30km/h zone.

However, I can not say that I fully like it at the moment. I think the 900% is a bit too much regen at higher speeds and I need to back that off some, also how the torque comes in can be more or less aggressive. If I make it too soft then you get a super delayed response and you miss your target. If I make it too harsh it's uncomfortable.

Need to spend a little more time calibrating it at all throttle positions and speeds.

We can do that as soon as I have something I am more or less satisfied with, right now it's a bit too inconsistent with speed and too delayed in some cases. Needs tuning

I'd also be interested in trying out the revised regen, as I opted to keep it OEM to begin with. I haven't had the box installed yet, but when I do, how do I go about to carry out the update? Do I receive an .exe file from you via email that I then download to the ASG via the ENET cable (in the OBD port) with your custom Windows app? Or do you have the means to somehow provide an OTA upgrade (being able to address my specific ASG box through the Porsche OEM software system)? Perhaps a silly question, but I don't know how it works :–).

Great, that sounds easy enough for me (once I get around to have the ASG installed :–).

20 software revisions later I got it working quite well.

Regen increased by 400%.
Extended the pedal overrun range. From factory the regen comes in basically in the last 1-2% of travel, there is now 20% of pedal to play with on the Turbo S, on the less powerful cars there will be even more adjustment.

Recalibrated the torque filter/damper so that the regen torque coming in does not feel abrupt even if you just release the pedal.

Fixed the way the switchover works when changing modes, so the car does not start accelerating or braking by itself when toggling the regen while driving in a straight line and holding the pedal steady.

Right now I am able to single pedal drive normal city driving situations (metric, LHD) - slowing down for a turn, going through a 30km/h zone where you have to yield to right hand traffic. Braking for speed bumps.
Adding any more regen it's IMO too much, and when you lift out completely it becomes nauseating.

Ported all the changes to J1.2 also.
Next steps are testing with some customers and collecting feedback and opinions.

Consider J1 as being the current plaform, on which J1.1 (2019-2024) and J1.2 (2025-present) are built.

We have only ONE generation, on the J1 platform. There's a half-life refresh in 2025, so following the unofficial Porsche owners tradition, we tag the 2019-2024 cars as J1.1, and the 2025+ as J1.2.

Similarly, the Boxster 986 and 911 996 got a refresh from 986.1 / 996.1 to 986.2 / 996.2 in 2002 ; 9x7.1 in 2005 then 9x7.2 in 2009 ; 9x1.1 in 2012 then 9x1.2 in 2016; 9x2.1 in 2018 then 9x2.2 in 2025. The Macan gen 1 was a little exception as it got 3 phases: 95B.1 in 2014, 95B.2 in 2019 and 95B.3 in 2021.

Being a bit pedantic: J1 is the name of the platform, we should not say "J1.1" nor "J1.2", and we should use the car type instead: "9J1.1" and "9J1.2"

"Nerdy me" likes the car type "9J1", as it looks like "911", the essence of Porsche.

Ah this is a welcome change. When holding the pedal steady and switching the drive mode dial from Sport -> Sport Plus, it currently feels like a downshift + throttle blip on an ICE car.
