On the way home from work today I ran into/over a pothole - the (nearside rear) tyre immediately deflated due to a huge gash in the side. I had to drive a few hundred metres to get off the main road, so I hope the alloy isn’t damaged.

Porsche assist were pretty good and got a recovery truck to me inside 90mins which I thought was pretty good. Fortunately Tonbridge Porsche were very accommodating and we managed to get there before they closed at 6pm.

Just waiting to see if it’s just a new tyre or also a new alloy that is needed. Tyres have done 4,500 miles so I guess there is also the dilemma whether I need to get one tyre or two, to ensure they are evenly worn in the rear.

Feel your pain - had the same 2wks after I bought mine. "Only" an egg in the sidewall, but needed replacing.

My wheel was OK thankfully. And only replaced the one tyre - can't recall how much wear there was. That sort mileage should mean well over half still to go, so I'd have thought just do the one.

The next thing is how much Porsche stiff you for the tyre!

Should it helps (!), a front tyre (Goodyear on mine) was £300.

Thanks - this is for a rear, but I know where the garage get their tyres from, so will call them first thing tomorrow!

I did this on my 911 earlier this year, but it was a front tire and I hit debris on the road (not a pothole). I also had to drive a bit before I could pull over. I was more worried about the impact because it was jarring and immediately deflated.

Wheel was fine. Just a new tire.

Different wheel, tire, and impact, but though I’d share

I hope you're going to claim for the damage from the council or National Highways if on a strategic road?

Yes, I reported the pothole to the Council and requested a claim form.

The Porsche garage have confirmed there is a bulge in the front tyre too, so that will also need to be replaced.

Good luck with the council.

I've had no joy on 3 separate occasions now, with fairly aggressive "so sue us" responses. Being time poor, I opted out of that (which I think is mainly what they rely on now, hence the shitty style of response).

More recently, however, the sheer lack of attention to the roads means I get one more incident and I'll accept that gauntlet being thrown down.

Tally so far:

1x Maserati GT wheel and tyre - £1,600
1x Volvo wheel and tyre - £1,000
1x Taycan tyre - £300

Some of the roads round here are like war torn 3rd world roads. They're an absolute disgrace.

I've lived and worked in DC for 30 years. Pothole central. I lost count after 7, but I'm now quite proficient in changing on my own... First one in the Taycan was coming home from a week at the beach last summer with my two large dogs in the back and 81 year old mom in the passenger seat at 23:00 doing at least 55 at the time of the blowout. Unfortunately passing through quite possibly one of the most unsafe areas around and decided to hobble the last 7 miles and test the run-flat. Surprisingly no damage to the rim or car--although 7 miles took about an hour on side streets... Took 3 days and a rental to get the new tire, even in a big metro area. I swear I am a careful driver, but if the roads jump out and grab you, you're basically SOL in a low-profile sports car...

Ouch. Was that because the other was too worn? How down was it?

Which brand/tyre?

That really sinks….sorry that happened!

So many people gave me crap that I did not put low profile wheels on my mission e’s and this is exactly why. I have lived that one to many times in the past.

One had a huge hole in the sidewall, the other had a huge bulge in the sidewall - no doubt they both needed to be replaced - Pirelli P Zero EV

I’m not sure the small difference in sidewall between the tyres on my GTS and whatever profile you fitted to your car would have made much, if any, difference.
