But what are peoples hopes/thoughts on range improvement.

Obviously battery hardware needs to improve, but will there be software advances to makes eek out more range with current battery hardware

There will be improvements over time but nothing to extend the range of additional 80-100 miles. All we can hope is possible 5-10 miles.

Partially agree. These things all go hand in glove.

Stopping for 10mins when covering ~350-400 miles is no hardship (though am now the wrong side of 50 so maybe that comes into play ).

My son and I stopped on the way down from a 250 mile trip. He'd not had time for a pee and to grab some food before the car was ready.

My guess is that the facelift will come with the same battery as the Macan EV which will provide the extra range - so think of it as "Performance Battery ++" (100 kWh) - adding maybe 20 - 30 miles (conditions dependent) with a higher gross capacity and therefore more net available for use than the current PB+. Not new tech / chemistry therefore but rather more weight to bump up the potential for additional mileage.

Personally, I would like to wait for solid state to be mainstream - hybrid solid state is showing impressive results with Nio (600+ miles, live streamed this week an actual 8 hr car journey with 3% range left from 150 kWh battery (lighter than current tech)). Before solid state I can't see much potential for range advancement without incurring additional weight before diminishing returns kick in.

We don't need more performance - my GTS is way more powerful than is needed.

I regularly do 500-700 miles day trips.

In the old times, I would try not to stop at all ? or 1 (very short) stop max, diesel car would allow close to 600 miles range. no or ?...

I now stop 2 to 3 times, take a coffee, or a ?, and it's time to leave because car is ready for next leg. I find it more relaxing, can stretch legs and am in a better physical condition when at destination. I admit: I get older too...

to make a long story short, I compared the best times i've done on a 500 miles trip I do quite often, with the ICE (1 stop) and the Taycan (2 stops) : +15 mn for the Taycan. not significant on a 7hrs trip.

The only thing I could ask Santa Claus is a better charging curve from 80 to 95% ?

I spoke to a dealer recently who advised the facelift would have a 106kw battery and "improved efficiency" so something in the region of a 20% range efficiency at a guess.
I'm no engineer but it feels as if they are tweaking efficiency and density (look at the progression of the BMW i3 over it's lifetime for example) within the current generation of technology and a large leap is some way off. The Mercedes and BMW's of 2025 will be interesting, 5 miles per kw/h and a lighter car could all add up to a decent improvement.
