Rear Ended With Structural Damage

10 days ago I was rear ended by a 17 year old kid. . He said he was going 55-60. Most recent update from Porsche approved body shop. They are waiting for inspector from my insurance company come to review the revised estimate. :


There is currently no physical or code-related damage to the battery or high-voltage system. The rear body panel is a structural component that needs to be replaced using a frame bench.

Is this entering total loss territory? Surprised that there’s no damage to rear motor or HV components as of yet.

Both the motor, inverter and battery are very low in the car. Its impossible to tell from the picture alone, but the majority of the damage appears to be bodywork higher up than the core drivetrain components.

That makes sense.

I think it will be repairable, given that the car is recent. Can always be surprised by the Adjuster's quote to repair it.

Damage is worse than it looks I believe. Rear panel apparently needs to be completely replaced. We’ll see though.

Assuming no damage to the frame I would think this is repairable for under $25k USD. I don’t think this is a situation where they will total your car.

The bill so far is more than double that and growing. They also still need to tow it to a Porsche dealer to deactivate the battery and run diagnostics there. Car showed electrical system right after being hit. Maybe it was just a protective mechanism though. I’m waiting for my insurance company to approve the tow.
