Hi. I'm considering to get rear wheel steering on a Taycan 4S. Particularly I'm hoping for easier parking in smaller spaces.
How much of a difference does rear wheel steering make? Is it worth it?
Best regards Lars
Definitely worth it. You can corner better, and U turns are a breeze.

It is great, specia for a bigger car.
if you doubt try to do a test drive with both and you feel the difference

Rear Wheel Steering vs curb rash. My new Taycan with rear wheel steering arrives on Monday. My Tesla Model Y is 9" shorter than the Taycan. I have experienced curb rash in a parking lot when turning right. Since I didn't pull forward enough, the right rear wheel scraped the curb.
I am wondering if the new Taycan with rear wheel steering will help prevent curb rash. The Porsche document says that at low speed, the rear wheels turn the opposite way of the front wheels. That could mean that the rear of the car will move further away from the curb when turning. I wonder if I am making the correct assumption. For experienced owners, what are your thoughts?
Your assumption is correct when turning around a corner kerb. The downside is as stated upthread by @Fantasmos - when pulling out from being parked parallel to a kerb, the rear wheels swing the rear of the car towards the kerb.
On a point relevant to the OP rather than your question- the increased tight manoeuvrability gained with RAS translates to an only 5% reduction in turning circle, which is not exactly transformational.

I have to make an 180 turn at the end of my street. My Taycan RWS turns in same (narrow) space as my former 997.2.

It won't help. Try parking further from the kerb. If you have 360 view the use the kerb view and keep to the blue line

Rear wheel turns opposite when reversing by a few degrees.

Thanks for the great and quick answers here. It sounds quite convincing to go with the rear steering. I got answers - as asked - about the parking. Can anyone also add how the difference will be during higher speed, when changing lanes or going into sharper curves?
Thanks again, Lars
You won't be able to tell

Car handles well regardless and RAS enhances. PTV+ might be worth considering

Like all things, you adjust quickly to the RWS and in all parking and turning scenarios it provides a noticeable benefit. Especially helpful when reversing out of Haven't noticed a greater risk on kerbing the rears but have kerbed the fronts, possibly due to incompetence but also the (admittedly minimal) changed steering input required to position as close to kerbs as we have to in width challenged UK situations, plus 2.5 tons of car not giving the tiny rim protector ridge on the tyre any chance to do its job without deforming.

I'm relatively careful on options and without question think this one was worthwhile.

Although the angle is only 2.8 degrees, it is really impressive. At that time, I was hesitant whether to retrofit the LED :cool:Matrix Headlight or the Rear Wheel Steering first. In the end, I made the right choice.

I didn't have rear wheel steering on my first Taycan, and the car took some work to park in tight garages. I have it on my new Taycan, and really notice the difference.

Best thing about the handling in my opinion. I can’t imagine the car without it. Plus it gives you a shockingly small u-turn radius and parking maneuverability. Absolutely worth it! Feels like a 911 wheelbase!

I'm astonished and so thankful for all the enthusiasm in this forum. I just put this question to get a bit of a guidance. You have overwhelmed me with answers... and conviction.
Thanks so much, Lars

Assuming you're planning on getting a new model, it's probably worth reconfirming that what I'm about to describe is still true. If it is, though, you might want to consider not optioning Remote Park Assist.

I agree with all of the other people who said (a) Rear Axle Steering makes the wheelbase feel shorter at lower speeds and longer at higher ones and is generally a great thing and (b) parallel parking harder / less intuitive / more prone to curbing wheels, especially when you are adjusting to how wide the rear is.

I consider surround view cameras as close to a "must have" as anything on this car, but part of that might be that I had been driving the very boxy BMW E28 for over 20 years previously. There is one camera view that looks straight to the side that really helps me figure out how close I want to be to the curb. It shows a light blue line that you want to align with the passenger-side curb. This view is not available on <=MY2024 models if RPA is optioned, because the icon in the touchscreen interface is repurposed to handle park assist.

I curbed rear wheels twice in the first couple of weeks before I figured out how to properly interpret this side view, but I'm coming up on a year now have not done it since, and still consider this direct side view valuable enough to eschew remote parking assistance.

you asked earlier if it makes a difference at high speeds. It definitely seems so to me although I never had a version without it. I would definitely option this again. It was one of my "must haves" and I have no regrets.
