At 3:05 she slips out this key piece of information...
That profiles stop at the min? I agree that’s key, but, I guess I still don’t get what everyone finds so confusing about it all.

I guess the confusion is driven by the want. I think most people simply want a maximum; don't go over 85% (as suggested by Porsche…). But when you set a minimum, as the wording implies you might exceed it which in most cases is not what people want so they are suspicious. The wording is correct, if you have a timer set or a preferred charging period in a profile, then you might well exceed the minimum (although without timers its as good as a maximum). If we use the great waiter / water analogy… I draw a red line on a glass and tell the waiter that is the minimum I want, I expect he will actually fill above the line to make sure he gives me at least the minimum I have requested, and he might feel generous and top it up. I need to add the words “and don’t exceed the line” to get him to stop at the minimum. The Porsche literature does state this in places but in others it simply says “the high-voltage battery is charged to at least the minimum charge state programmed in the profile function”, which is unnerving when you want it to stop.

One’s “want” might be incomplete. There are 3 scenarios that are addressed by this solution:
- need a minimum charge level asap
- only charge during this time
- charge to this max level

The “primitives” represented by the timer and the profile, respectively, would allow anyone to program their charging with any parameters they like.

Today I used charging menu to change general profile amount of charge. I saw the following in PCM:
Porsche Taycan Taycan Charging Quick Reference [Profiles and Timers] 1692561236467

PCM says the same thing as @Jhenson29 keeps repeating in multiple posts.
Amazing! ;)

I've just added support for visualizing the complicated logic behind the Taycan charge schedules to Electric Sidecar v1.4.0-42 as part of the Storage Mode update. I think there's quite a bit more that could be done to make configuring these schedules easier, would love any feedback on the new UX!

Is there a way to use the preheat/precool option in a timer only when the charger is connected? I work from home and office on random days and setup a timer, but my vehicle preheats, also when the car is not connected to the charger and is therefor using valuable power when I WFH.

I think that would be too much to ask, but it makes sense if they could add a Preheat/Precool only when Shore power is connected.

This is mostly referring to the use of Profiles and Timers.

I’ve seen a couple of recent questions so I thought I’d post a summary of what the car will charge to in all scenarios.

I think a majority of the confusion comes from wanting to just set a maximum on the car, but there’s no way to do that.

To the best of my knowledge, this is accurate as of Sept 2021.

If more than one condition is true, the car will charge to the higher value.

If…Car Will Charge To:
  • There are no active timers* or profiles
  • Or there is an active profile and the current time is within the preferred charging time and there is no active timer*
  • Or direct charging is active
100%
  • There is an active profile
Profile Minimum
  • There is an active timer* and the car is within the window to require charging to meet the target charge at the departure time or the time is within the window of an active profile with preferred times
Timer Target Charge
  • SoC is less than 25%
25%

*Non-repeating timers are inactive 30 minutes after the departure time.

What was the source of the info in your table?
Especially the footnote.
It doesn’t make sense that if there is no charging instruction scheduled/enabled (I.e. do nothing) the car will decide to charge to 100%.

A combination of the manual and testing in different scenarios. I don’t know if any of this has changed on new cars.
