Interesting news coming out of Germany regarding Porsche production in 2026.

The report from SWR states that Taycan production has been paused for a week starting last Friday, May 22, due to weak demand.

Are we witnessing the beginning of the end for our beloved Taycan?

Not surprising.

I'm guessing that the Cayenne is going to take some customers, Merc finally has a competitor (styling aside) and it's only a matter of time before BMW drops something interesting.

Add on top of that, J1 is getting kinda old (yes, we had the refresh, but that was an incremental improvement), especially when compared to the numbers that Merc and BMW are touting, and SSP is nowhere to be seen.

"Taycan" will probably fade away until a Panamera-badged EV based on SSP replaces it. Or Porsche gives up on EVs.

I would not read too much into a one week closure. Corvette which continues to make lots of money for GM, had a two week closure early this month and there is another one week scheduled the first week of June. Closures could easily be for re-tooling as suggested above, or a supplier being behind and needing catch up time.

Retooling needs more than a week.

Simple answer is "No".

Weak demand doesn't change the fact that the Taycan is the car most other companies measure themselves against, and in spite of our current administration, the drive to EVs is an inexorable trend.

I find the whole ICE vs. EV debate to be humorous. How many ICE 911's will be sold in 2035 once people experience a 718 EV? Come on!

I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but isn't the Taycan simply the best performance car (EV or otherwise) that you've ever owned?? Would you trade it for a Tesla? Would you trade it for an ICE 911 (Ok, I know a few have). But NOOOO! Most of us love this car and want to keep driving it. I've seen nothing and heard nothing that says Porsche is abandoning EVs - just that they are slowing down the transition.

Good for them. I think this gives them time to optimize the car around modern battery technology AND high performance motors, suspension, etc.

Guys - If you love your Taycan don't get your underwear in a twist! (or as a millennial would say "Why are you being so extra about this!") The car is a winner and will be around longer than you and I will 😀

I love my Taycan, but you're really drinking the Kool-Aid here.

Wishful thinking, the economics of the Taycan don't work. I love mine, no question. When the lease is up, I'll most likely be moving to the Cayenee Coupe EV

I just sold my '09 997,2 and bought a '26 992.2S.
It's noisy, rough and ready ways complement the refinement of the my 2020 Taycan 4S.
I will have to figure out whether to trade the 911 or the Taycan when the 718 EV comes out.

It depends on the range of the 718EV. If it has 300 miles range I’m interested. 350+ and I’m sold since I have my Mercedes Sprinter Airstream diesel and my Hummer H2 for long trips. 350 mile range allows me to go to Las Vegas from OC on one charge but if the range is 400+ then I can drive to San Francisco in one charge. When that’s possible I won’t buy another ICE vehicle ever again.

What is the latest estimate for when the 718 EV will be revealed and or produced? I can't wait for it!

My dealer seems to think that it will be the end of the decade...I certainly hope not.

be 2028 after Trump leaves office and the tariff war with our friends is over. With a little luck Trump won’t make it to 2028 so Vance & the GOP can stop supporting Trump’s really ignorant economic policies or lack thereof.
Luxury cars from Europe can’t handle the tariffs. Is Trump’s goal to have Porsche build cars in US factories? That’s a sure way to destroy the Porsche brand.

I replaced my 2021 Cayman GTS 4.0 PDK with a 2023 Taycan GTS Sport Turismo and don’t regret it one bit. As I’m writing this, I’m actually at the track with it and am having great fun! :)
