And blaming a slow down of EV sales? Most issues are internal to Porsche.

If true, it's not a great sign, considering the very solid improvements in the latest generation. I wonder does it mean that existing owners are not pushing for the newer variant ?

When I was last on a factory tour: Taycan was on two day shifts and 911 was on three shifts (one night one).

I think blaming it on EV sales is BS. When you announce an upgraded Taycan AND the fully-electric Macan, of course you're going to have a slow down. Some of those buyers (like me) are going to hold out for the new model and others are going to wait and test drive the Macan and compare them.

Buying a new one is straight stupid if you look at the massive depreciation experienced by new Taycan buyers from even as recent as last year.

That's fair. Plus the consistent price increases on the buy side of the transaction.

The EV sales in EU have fallen quite a lot during 2024. Seems a tough market especially at the price point for the Taycan. will be very interesting to see the picture for the first half of 2024 in July!

I don’t see this as a bad thing to a point, the car market is out of control.. some softening long enough should help deals become more realistic. Used or New.

I have been looking for a basic used Subaru legacy for my son and am finally this month see cars staying on lots longer and price reductions. In April a dealer was still asking almost the same as new for a 2 year old car.

It seems they did the article and measured between Porsche sale cycles too though so not sure how much to read into the Taycan is lost idea..

Indeed, in the largest market in Europe, Germany, the EV sales have dropped by 16.4 % in the first half of 2024. Tesla's sales have dropped drastically by 42%:

So much so, there has been more than one outlet that reported that around 5,000 brand new cars from the Tesla from their factory near Berlin are parked on a disused East German airfield due to the sales slump (article in German):

So other BEV manufacturers are feeling the pinch even more acutely.

It is rational for prospective buyers to hold on the purchase of a new .2 Taycan. It’s a 6-figure vehicle with a limited use case….which generally means it’s an enthusiast passion project. The utilitarian workhorses like the Macan will always be the volume leader…especially considering the lower price. I am not a rational person. I am willing to pay a premium for a cool car in wagon form. A car company would not stay in business if their success was contingent upon finding more unicorns like me….and a few of you I suspect.

I agree with @Unknown. The slowdown in the EV market is a normal correction swing from tight supply to oversupply. I see this as a good thing.

As far as pricing for the Taycan goes, this is a luxury car that created a halo effect for the brand and broke new ground in terms of 800 volt architecture and manufacturing at Porsche (electrical, mechanical, and software). It is still viewed by most automotive publications as the best performance EV in the world today. The Macan will be a huge seller, and over time the price in the MY25 Taycan will drop a bit, but it will always be a six figure car.

I think Porsche is doing a great job of managing the sales channel and not overproducing vehicles (like Tesla per the linked article above, thanks @Der-Schwabe ).

I’m still not worried about depreciation and can’t help wonder but why so many others are. May I suggest that next time buy a less expensive car perhaps?

Well for me it’s not the price per se; it’s that the Taycan is a placeholder until Porsche makes the car I want. The more it drops, the more expensive that next car will be for me.

I’ve been driving Porsches since 1998 (this Taycan is my ninth) and the repair costs and depr are substantially higher.

That said I don’t want to ruin anyone else’s good time. I’ll try and quit beating that drum despite how it chafes me.

I get your point, and offer condolences. Depreciation while holding on for that 718 or 911 EV is painful.

Almost no one wants a 6 figure EV, and people like me don’t feel any “need” at all to trade “up” to a gen 2. We already know how that goes, Porsche should limit production to keep prices stable and create more market demand
