[Updated] My Porsche App updated w/ new interface and functions

I believe this update marks an end to an ongoing replacement of Porsches Design System. I saw some LinkedIn posts from devs and designers that they are proud of the new system. Refreshed apps, including an port to Apple Watch is a perfect proof of concept.

So although the Watch app feels not finished yet. The SoC complication is absent - at least I believe so - due to the fact that implementing the new design is the major focus of this release - so the v10. The iOs team(s) now have time to further develop more features. My guess would be SoC data for watch and even further Carplay integrations. Resulting in releases like v10.1 or v10.2 etc.

We need to be patient for optimizations, this was just a fresh new look.

Hats off for the devs and designers, these are the most fun releases to work for. And to my eyes they nailed the new design.

No offense to the Porsche employed designers/coders but if you look at what @featherless has achieved in terms of feature set and capabilities in his Electric Sidecar app/watch implementation in the last 2-3 months alone it most def puts those efforts in context I.e. somewhat underwhelming TBH!

Can anyone tell me how to change the units for the watch app from km to miles? Phone app shows miles, watch shows km for me. Cannot find settings for Watch app.

Not sure why you are so negative. A third party developer did a great job extending the experience for you. Doesn’t make the first party bad.

My was km when I opened it first time and then it updated itself after I went back in to the phone app and is now showing miles.

So "hope it starts working" is the strategy to employ here.

On the bright side, the update fixed my windows being show as open in the app, which I was unable to fix for weeks now. Ok, I stopped after reclosing all windows a couple times and restarting the app.


EDIT: rebooting watch didn't help. What did help is killing both the phone and watch app, then starting them back up.

Yours was a slap on the back for what I consider a modest update by a full on team of devs at Porsche; Mine was a recognition of double the output imo by a single developer, crowd sourcing ideas, and implementing near real time - never said anything was 'bad' with the former, just underwhelming, and I still think so

The new phone app seems more Tesla-like on the front screen, which link to old MyPorsche screens. New front screen seems like an improvement. Interestingly a new service showing a 1.5Mbps Verizon data plan I have not seen before.

Sorry I am tech-challenged. How do you update the app if already on your phone? When I go to App Store and click it, it takes me to the current version.

This is a great update, I'm super happy to see an OEM leaning in to supporting the Apple Watch!

Re: Electric Sidecar, I appreciate the love and I also completely understand why things might be taking longer for Porsche to land (I wrote about this broader problem on the Nuts and Bolts newsletter). Knowing the constraints they're likely working with of competing priorities it's all the more impressive to see them getting these features out the door

Yes it shows the Soc in Apple Maps. However it doesn’t manage to calculate the route when Taycan is selected as car. When I uncheck Taycan CT it does calculate a route without charge stops of course.

It works as expected on my phone/car.

I think one of the more important aspects to the rollout of the Apple Maps/EV integration is that as the Taycan PCM ages (and maybe with the release of the new OS in the Macan this is already happening) the CarPlay interface will be a fall-back to keeping a modern experience going.

Accessing the car via the App (IOS/iPhone) is so much quicker now. I think this is the biggest improvement.

Nobody knows for sure with the new release yet – but the assumption is that it does not. This might be a limitation on Apple Maps – we just don't know.
