No email here yet. Furthermore, I'll be out of town during the supposed update days, and my car sits in my garage where there is no signal. Let's see if their systems are smart enough to send me the update the next time I have signal.

This was actually a constant issue for me when I had my Tesla, especially once they required that updates only be done if the car was connected to WiFi, rather than using the car's cellular connection. I would have to either drive somewhere and hotspot or drive to the office and connect to my work's WiFi and then try and get the update.

I helped you to correct it:

Porsche: doing improvements to PCM and/or the server structure.
Porsche: announcing upcoming changes to PCM and/or the server structure with 90th style reconnect retries/reboots.
Taycan Forum: "Porsche is trash, they are a joke".
You're just proving my point.

then it's fine. Frustration and cynicism is part of the game.

Like you I've not received anything about this from Porsche and I will be away when it is released and we can see how our car's deal with the update.

my teslas would receive the update regardless of their being connected to wifi

I actually bought a 4G router that sits in the Tesla to provide a Wifi for it to download updates.

Difficult to make something funny about something that might be very frustrating - (I personally expect my $200k car to not frustrate me repeatedly) and not to be seen as making light of someone's pain. Having said that, I do wish they tried!
wow you paid $200K for a 4S CT? I need to rethink selling mine in this market....

because it's bulls**t. They fiddle or move some backend services as stated in the email.
Dream on.
What about a bet if you are so sure?
So "bullshit" is a valid contribution today here?
Ok, let me dodge this valuable reply by asking you another question: why would Porsche want you to connect the car preferably to a charging station before the system upgrade if it's just a "fiddle or move backend services"?
I'm expecting a more decent answer if that is not too much trouble.
Could you post your email so we can compare the content?
Thanks in advance.

Just got the e-mail. I'm hoping this combined with recall update mends some gremlins. (4/29 service appt.)

For the ones who still believe it is just a stand alone server migration, I have asked Google Translate to translate the Dutch text:)

"Your satisfaction is always our top priority. To ensure that this remains the case, we regularly make system adjustments to the Porsche Connect services, among other things. Usually this happens in the background. We are working hard to bring you new features and improvements in a timely manner. We prepare your vehicle for this by carrying out a system adjustment in the first step."

Clearly this server change is necessary to be able to bring new updates / functionalities to our Taycans so I am very happy about this.

just got the eMail - I'm sure it's an update to the backend - and I"m also sure this is intended to make things better - but it's not clear there is any change to the onboard software on the vehicle - the logout and login instructions are clearly to reset the client's connection to the back end servers - however the wait for 600 days and try again instructions "if it doesn't work" are laughable and represent the best software practices from 1972…it's pretty clear from this Porsche has a long ways to go for seamless OTA updates

here is the raw text from my email in english

Porsche Taycan First real OTA update for the Taycan 2020 and 2021 happening April 27th… C10B851E-A177-4205-883E-30E5C9F96964

Obviously there are different emails (like I already suspected).
This may be due to different model years and/or different countries.

Here's the part what makes the difference and why I stated it's a OTA-update and not just a server upgrade (key words in bold):

"Your satisfaction is always our top priority. To ensure that this remains the case, we regularly make system adjustments to the Porsche Connect services, among other things. Usually this happens in the background. We are working hard to bring you new features and improvements in a timely manner. We prepare your vehicle for this by carrying out a system adjustment in the first step.

This system adjustment will take place on the night of April 26 to 27 between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Then we need your help. The next time you start your Porsche after this date, communication between your vehicle and our systems must be re-established.

For this you need your login details and, if applicable, your Security PIN (S-PIN) of the user stored in the vehicle. Detailed instructions for this can be found below.

We would like to point out that after the above-mentioned date for the scheduled system switchover, several Porsche Connect services may not work until your vehicle has been restarted. During this time, you may not receive any notifications from the vehicle in your My Porsche app or in the My Porsche portal, nor can you send commands to your vehicle through the My Porsche app or from the My Porsche portal. You will also be informed about this with an error message in the app and in the portal. There is also the possibility that individual services in the vehicle may initially only be available to a limited extent.

Therefore, try to start your vehicle as soon as possible after the system adjustment (if possible within 24 hours), in order to re-establish communication between your vehicle and our systems.

To enable a smooth update, you must be logged in with your main user and connect the vehicle to a charging station before the system switchover and before your vehicle is parked. However, if this is not possible, you will not be at a disadvantage".

After this, the procedure for logoff/in is the same.
