I can't be bothered with the cables either - wireless charging is slow, hot and poor in the Taycan - which is a must when using power draining apps such as Maps.

Apple CarPlay will drop by design:

I presume that means the phone is only usable through Carplay.

Is the Apple Maps EV functionality showing up for anybody outside the US? I have a UK App Store My Porsche App, and car in Switzerland but still nothing in the app for me.

There are not details there as to the "model" used to calculate the destination SoC. It could be as simple as as I described (based on estimated range), or a much more complex model, perhaps even accounting to current weather and elevation changes throughout the planned route.
It actually is in my opinion, as I quoted already:

Apple Maps uses energy consumption models that are specific to your Taycan, allowing for an accurate battery usage prediction which updates during your trip.
The energy consumption model defines what the energy usage is at what speed, under which conditions (temperature, rain, terrain). So it is NOT just a simple extrapolation using the current range.

This is good news, it's only additive.

Like many others here I'm eager to find out if preconditioning will happen ahead of an Apple Maps navigated charging stop.

Also interested to know if driving modes (Range vs Normal vs Sport) influence Apple Map's SOC estimate. Perhaps through the consumption data that is shared, but will it know this at the outset?

Watch out for CarPlay 2 announcements at Apple's WWDC in June.

Nope. Even the non-US iOS app store lacks release notes mentioning this feature – where as the release notes (for the same version) in the US store has mention of the Apple Map integration.

Ok, just tried using Apple Maps to navigate to work. A few observations.
1. The SOC shown via apple is exactly the same as shown by Porsche, which seems slightly odd if apple were calculating separately rather than Porsche merely sharing. Certainly not impossible by any means, so don’t go after the messenger.
2. While I can get Waze and Porsche Nav to work simultaneously as well as Waze and Apple simultaneously, I cannot seem to get Apple and Porsche to work simultaneously.
3. Apple has nice UI and good reporting of fixed speed cameras.
4. Apple totally blew it on routing as it failed to consider (or even indicate) heavy traffic on routes. The route that Waze recommends based on live traffic would have been about 10 minutes shorter, and on a short trip this is material. Are there any settings I need to adjust? As I mentioned in previous posts, the utility of any crowdsourced app depends upon how many people are using it in your area, and it feels like Waze rules the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.
5. These are just initial observations provided to be helpful. I have no skin in this game.

Given the notable level of cooperation between Apple and Porsche on CarPlay, it seems likely that Porsche has shared information with Apple about how they model Taycan SOC estimation in the PCM Nav.
Or perhaps your trip was short enough that ABRP would have had the same prediction for the same route given an accurate consumption rate.

I will be interested to see if Apple Maps and PCM Nav deviate when other factors like AC, driving mode are in play.

I’m not sure if this really helps answer this question, but note the message you get when disconnected from CarPlay.

I wish they have the option to share as much info as Porsche shares with its own app.

also, I wish they let us choose to display this in HUD and in middle of dash screen above the steering wheel. If safety were the main reason for HUD and the other display, as they should be, the same would be true for third party navigation, particularly ones like apple with some level of integration

The Porsche release says "For model years 2021 and older, a software update is required to enable this feature. The update is free, and can be carried out during a visit to a Porsche service workshop."

Any idea if the dealers have this update yet and how long it might take to install?

Apple Maps UI, nav and turn by turn are far superior to Google Maps now. Don't take my word for it though, try it. Google Maps has the odd advantage on some POI information but honestly they both have issues there.

Apple Maps usage is actually very high, if you have not tried in the last few years I'd encourage you to try it again. It's a breath of fresh air after the cluttered shambles that is Google Maps these days.
Agree. Particularly in Cities, the turn by turn and stoplight and stop sign instructions are much appreciated in Apple Maps.

maybe hopefully it's just the "big update" that some cars may/may-not have? or is it specfically an update for this feature.

I'm hoping it's the same update that brought us the color-icons and wireless carplay etc…more information would be appreciated.

Check out Apple's CarPlay 2 announcement from last year. Extends the CarPlay experience to multiple screens. Porsche was named among the companies committing to support it. Let's see if it happens, and whether they make it available to older model years.

If your Taycan PCM has the colored icons, you only need to update the My Porsche APP on your iPhone to activate the feature and enable EV routing from the updated My Porsche APP. https://www.porsche.com/usa/apple-maps-ev-routing/

I'm cautiously optimistic that CarPlay 2 may actually save the Taycan interface. I imagine Porsche is too.

https://carbuyer.com.sg/2023-whats-new-in-the-next-gen-apple-carplay/#:~:text=Apple has stated that the,September 2023 alongside iOS 17.

I mean, this is clearly a Taycan dash in this mockup (well, sort of Taycan meets Model 3/Ioniq mashup, but in any case....). I don't want my dash looking exactly like this at all, but this was a very early concept art, probably used by Apple to sell Porsche on the system and the access needed to make it happen, but it points to a much nicer, cleaner interface afaic.

I do love the iconic and classic analog Porsche dashes. But for my money, it got too cluttered over time, and with the jump to digital displays it just didn't resonate with me personally anymore.

I know the Taycan is somewhat customizable, and I do like it in certain configurations to be sure - I wouldn't buy it otherwise. But, overall, especially the center console and HVAC controls, I could use other options. The main driver displays, the tubes, I don't mind nearly as much as the map/audio/controls interfaces. YMMV.
