Long story short I live down in the Caribbean with no OPC and after 3 flawless, brilliant years and 20,000 miles my Taycan 4S has finally died. Car is completely dead with the 12V battery showing only 0.7V. When we boost it the car turns on and the PCM is showing full charge and 230 mile range but still electrical system faults. My tech can pull the errors and the HV battery appears to be good. Unfortunately a quick call to my nearest OPC in Florida and they won't sell me a battery due to issues with shipping. I offered to go and get it in person and they won't sell me one. They said other dealer might but they won't. Does anyone have a friendly dealer that will sell me a 12V battery? Surely... surely... I don't have to ship the car to the US just to get the 12V battery replaced? Does anyone know if a new 12v battery needs initializing/linking with the car in anyway?

LiON batteries are hard to ship via Air - this will be difficult to solve -and yes the batteries probably need to be paired with the vehicle.

Have you tried putting a Lithium compatible charger on the battery? I’m wondering if your BMS kicked in and it just needs the proper charger to get it out of protection mode.

Shipping by sea obviously an option but longer delivery time plus the pairing with vehicle issue.

The guy in Thailand is able to bring the 12 V batteries back from the dead with his EPROM programmer and his skillset.

Because they told me they couldn't ship it, I offered to go up to FL and pick it up from them directly and run it across town to my freight forwarder who will ship it by sea no problem but they changed that to wouldn't sell me one even over the counter. Ugh.

This is a good point. I did try my NOCO 5 lithium compatible charger overnight which said it was charging but didn't make any difference. I could try it for even longer but as I understand it the battery has cutouts when it drops below a certain voltage which makes me wonder if the charge is even getting through given how low mine is.

Might seem an obvious question, but what does the OPC suggest you do?

Melt the car down into a paperweight? :D

Well, if you have enough extra cash on hand you could just drop it off the next space shuttle into space like Musk did and the first Taycan in orbit would be fun to see through a powerful telescope every time it passes by in the sky. Mine is coffee beige so it would have really good contrast against the blackness of space…

This might be a dumb question, but how did you get your service done when you don't have a dealership nearby?

Porsche have confirmed the part number I need is 9J1 915 105 NY but they won't sell me one.

Does anyone know if the Audi etron GT part with the IDENTICAL part number is otherwise identical? I mean, I know it should be but then who would have thought a 12V battery would ever need programming to work with a car! We have an Audi dealer on island who could supply it.

It's cheaper from Audi too....

The audi one must be identical, same partnumber

I had a 2008 Audi, and even that one needed to be programmed to accept a new 12V battery ... was something silly like the last digits of the serial number of the battery had to be stored somewhere in a module.

Audi should be able to help you out, or atleast supply the battery ... they may not want to do the programming, but perhaps you can get the contact info of one of their techs, meet up with him after work and give him some money for doing it ... he should be able to do it with an OBD dongle

Or some independent garage that works on audi/porsche
